I will be making a trip there sometime soon, I have heard that the cops are always there making sure everyone is legal, what do I need to be sure im "legal"

If you have numbers on your boat above the waterline, a fire exstinguisher thats good , and a whistle. Registration in the car would'nt be a bad idea. This is just for peak weekends, weekdays just show up.
