newbie from Chicago questions - getting first PWC

hi, i have some newbie questions....
i am planning to buy my first PWC, i have rode them in the past when out with friends
but after renting one up in wisconsin and being able to go out by myself and
do what i want with it without worrying about a friends machine i am reconsidering
getting a motorcycle again in favor of a wave runner.
here are some of the questions...
i live in chicago by the niles/park ridge borders plus we have a house up in
wisconsin by lone rock which is near spring green. where are good places
to ride to get used to the machines and have some fun without worrying about
people everywhere?
how does the license work. i would license it in illinois of course,
but to use it in wisconsin do i have to do anything with them?
i was also reading that certain areas you have to have a pass for???
since this will be our first machine i am not looking for something that is
not made for racing. i just want to cruise and pull the kids on a tube.
the machines im looking at is 08-09 yamaha vx cruiser or the dealer by
me has Brand New 2007 Yamaha VX1100 Sport's for 5899. and was thinking if i
am looking to get 2 with a trailer i might be able to get a better deal on
them since they are looking to clear inventory.
anything special i should be looking for being my first PWC?
any opinions?
thanks for the time...

Re: newbie from Chicago questions - getting first PWC

yamaha vx110 is very reliable aned excellant for pulling tubers. its not the fastest but its a comfy ride and has a top speed of close to 50 mph. As with license, as long as u have a valid drivers license your fine. i am also not located to far from u here in schaumburg, i mostly go up to lake michigan, winthrop harbor since its free. The only thing you would have to pay when going is a launch free and filling up ur ski. every lake is different.
