Re: anyone jet ski in the UP on Lk Superior?

I've been riding lake superior for the last 6 years, Day trips around Duluth, Port Wing and Knife River. 2-3 day trips from Duluth to Grand Portage and even as far north as Thunder Bay. Next year (July 2010) I plan on circumnavigation lake superior. 1300 miles, 8-10 days. If you are interested in one of these trips for 2010 let me know. There are several of us that go. You can contact me at jay2a8@yahoo.com

Re: anyone jet ski in the UP on Lk Superior?

thanks for the input - I assume you are riding a sit down....? i ride stand ups - there is no way in heck it would even be possible to ride 1300 miles on a stand up! lol buuuut if i had a sit down that would be quite the excursion!

i have been riding out in by silver city/Porcupine Mts and ontonagon. again just stand ups so i really dont go far at all. we just chase waves untill we run out of fuel (doesnt take long to burn up 5 gal of premix in a 800)

if you are ever up in silver city, there is a nice/safe launch in the river right by the hotel. its free unlike the marina in ontonagon.

I've made the run from Madeline to Bayfield in 4-6 footers during a small craft advisory. Took the ferry 25 minutes. Took me 4 on a stock '97 STX. On the way back I caught some decent air from two crisscrossing waves coming off either side of the island and landed on the front of the next wave. Was certain I had to have busted the hull somewhere... slowed down a bit after that.

Have also jetskied off the town of Russell at the Apostle Islands and wanted to run over to Sand Island but never got around to it before they ruled against ski usage.

The water can be very cold, around 50; eventually got a dry suit to stay warm when out during the small craft advisories.
