Worst business experience in a long time!

I purchased a new starter 3 weeks ago, I purchased 2 wear rings - one for my ski, one for my brothers..

My brothers birthday is Saturday - I spoke with Jeremy on the phone, the warranty manager and he refuses to help customers out when their chinese starters fail (he admitted they are made in china)

Jeremy refused to send out a new starter, and let me send him mine once I get his - he says I will need to send it to them, allow them to test it, and then they will send me a new one regardless... The other option is to spend $200 to overnight it, and hope it comes by Saturday because Jeremy does not know how to package a box, that person left for the day....

I am extremely disappointed that my ski will not be ready for my brothers birthday party on the water... Jeremy even said my ski had problems to go through 2 starters in 13 years!!!!! the Canadian or Australian OEM Starter lasted 13 years, chinese sbt lasts 3 weeks...

I also asked if Jeremy had a supervisor, he said he didnt, I asked him if that was really true and he responded - "not anyone that would talk to you"........

I am very upset that they are not willing to go the extra mile to help a repeat customer out, and I will have to take my future business elsewhere for PWC components.

Re: Worst business experience in a long time!

Unfortunately, Josh’s ski has experienced some issues.
1) He first emailed us yesterday, stated that the wear ring he bought was incorrect, and that we needed to overnight him a wear ring.

2) Now, with further investigation, he thinks there is an issue with the starter and has demanded that we Saturday O/N a starter. Our warranty is clear – we will replace any manufacturer defect on a starter within the first one year. We do not know yet that it is a manufacture’s issue (when on the phone he commented that it was having the same issue as the last starter). We offered for him to buy one up front and we would refund the price of the starter and normal shipping if it was a manufacturing issues. He refused this solution.

With a starter warranty we cannot just replace a part because someone says it is not working - we need to confirm it was a manufacturing issue. We have a process that is clear and we try to help our customers inside of the agreed to warranty. Unfortunately, Josh is not satisfied with this and is demanding special treatment. Treatment we unfortunately cannot provide.

Sincerely,
SBT Management

the correct thing is for you to buy another starter and have them check the one you got now after you send back, then refund if they find it defective. Who is to say that you would send the other one back????

Also, what is to say you did not wire it up backwards and fry it? That is why they have a process to check it out.

Re: Worst business experience in a long time!

They have my credit card on file, so obviously I would send it back.. It is next to impossible to wire it up backwards, I can go out and make a video of it right now not turning over properly with spark plugs in, and turn over all day with them out!

Also, I am a poor college student, who can not afford to be out of $200 for up to a week! I need to buy books tomorrow !! So, logically you could send another one out and I will send you this one back at the same time - I said I still have the box it came in! He also didnt want to drop it off at the ups or fedex store, because he didnt want to package a box, and he said they create the tracking numbers in house - fedex generates them via the fedex software and you print the label - ive used it before!

Re: Worst business experience in a long time!

Josh.. Helping you over on SBT too..

You need to check your grounds and power cable connections to the starter, they are KNOWN to rust INSIDE the covering...

Also, based upon this reading as well as the other forum, how long do you crank it for?? You do know that the starter should only be used for no more than 15 seconds, then it needs to rest for a few minutes?? Failing to do so WILL toast a starter faster than you can say oh ****!

I am not surprised SBT will not personally deliver a box to fedex, they are a large company with a shipping department, warehouses etc. The software they use tracks inventory from the second it enters the building to the second the fedex guy picks it up.. Deviating from that is not standard for business (think HP or FORD will do it?? nope).

I know you have a event this weekend, but I would seriously look at an alternate route.. Check the cables, check everything!! There are A LOT of riders on this board from SC.. Post up in the classifieds that you need a starter asap, and it needs to be local. I am sure you can find one that works, on the cheap..

Re: Worst business experience in a long time!

I cranked it a few times - to lathe the wear ring as instructed by SBT....

I did so 10-15 seconds, and had a break between each cranking like that... I have actually had a bank manager personally bring money from my account there, to another account across town for me while I was on a business trip in Germany and needed to make a large purchase.

I have already replaced the ground, and the power cord, thats not the issue

I think I read in another thread that he took the pump completely out and he's still getting the same results with the starter.

Re: Worst business experience in a long time!

Yeah, I took the pump completely off, cranks all day with spark plugs out, but with the plugs in the driveshaft only goes about 1/4 turn..

Battery is fully charged, and is sitting at 12.94 or so right now, even tried using my car battery after taking it out of the car... and tried my brothers marine battery... meaning it can only be the starter not having enough torque to compress the engine....

Re: Worst business experience in a long time!

I have had this same experiance.

Sbt did hold up their warrenty though. Unfortunatly on this last starter (3rd i believe) i sent it back (3 weeks ago now??) and have heard nothing.

that is three starters

1.) broke first try
2.) broke after first ride
3.) broke after a week

Note: they all broke in different methods and now have a genuine kawi starter that has lasted ~50 hours and still works perfectly....all on the same motor with same condidions.

Not trying to bash SBT. they did hold up their warrenty for a bit, BUT if they post 1 year warrenty they need to sell parts that last longer than 15 seconds...

SBT, i would like a call back on my stater i sent to you, at least a justification of why you are not going to give me a new one or refund my money now that i have a working one from kawi.
