Seadoo 951 water ingestion

I am on motor number four in my 99 Seadoo XP. {64 hr total} The first motor was covered by factory warranty. The next two 951s were SBT. I'm really afraid to run motor number four. Should I be re-torqueing the heads every 15hrs? Or is this a mith.
Thanks
Bill

Torqueing the head is not gonna help with water intrusion.

But I do recomend that you use the OEM exhaust gasket at the manifold, this is the major source of water leaks that kill the motor.

Like Dan said, Head does not need to be re-torqued.

Re: Seadoo 951 water ingestion

Thanks for the reply. My buddy and I were very careful to make sure the gasket was sealed. We used copper gasket sealer and could see there wasn't any leaks when we took out motor number three. I only used three tanks of gas before she let lose, and siezed. The builges were dry. Nothing amiss except ingesting water. A head gasket failure sure sounds like it could be the problem, but three motors !
What are your thoughts on the exhaust manifold having a crack? Therefore break-in goes well, but when you finally start to run up the speed, it heats up and opens the crack. The manifiold has been common to all three dead motors.
I would have dumped this ski long ago, but it handles so nice when it runs.

Our you using the head pipe boot kit supplied with those motors? A head pipe leak was common on 951's.It would spray almost directly into the carbs causing failure by water ingestion.

Yes, I used the gasket kits provided by SBT. Are there other kits available?

Re: Seadoo 951 water ingestion

Is it the same cylinder that keeps going? Doesn't compression gage hold reading? some 951,s can leak from the upper cylinders that separate water jackets. cylinder cracked? is carbon washed away off from the top of one piston from steamed water?place a dry towel around your carbs then take it out and see if they get wet.water may be spraying from a hose or somewhere you cant see unless its running at a higher rpms under a load. i found water by pass fittings this way were leaking on hard turns, i came back to shore and the towels were wet. but i have a stand up you can just take your seat off and look down.lol also shut off engine while running see if plugs are wet with water. tap the side of the plugs against a piece of dry wood to see what shakes off the electrode. i can tell when my engine bogs if there s water being ingested just by the way shes running. are you listening to how shes running? take the time to do this. don't just blast thru 3 tanks of gas till she explodes.lol

Not the gasket kit.The head pipe boot kit.P/N 45-109-05.Comes with all 951 carb motors.Doesn't come with warranty replacement motors. It would have to be purchased if not saved from original sbt motor.

Re: Seadoo 951 water ingestion

Thanks, I deffintely didn't just blow through three tanks of gas. I gingerly broke in the motor. It sounded tight, like I hoped. There wasn't a drop of water in the engine compartment. All hoses are in new condition. This craft sits in the garage most of it's life.
Question: Do other Seadoo 951 owners have realiability problems. Is this motor a flawed design. I have a 99GTX Lmdt also. I've only had to do a top end job on that motor, but it also siezed. I would love to hear from someone that has 200-300hrs on a 951. Is there anyone out there that has a success stories? You know, I contacted Seadoo and there was no response. Are they hiding something?
