SBT sleeve question

When contacting SBT on the phone I was told that kawi 1200 cylinders that have been resleaved will not hit full rpms. A shop that builds the fastest Ultras around said they don't know why this would be. Could someone explain this? I know that they are iron and not stock but that should not kill rpms, it should effect heat exchange more then anything else.

Re: SBT sleeve question

There might have been confusion on the question you had asked the sales person.Yes they will hit max RPM just like stock. You cannot sleeve one cylinder and not do the rest as there will be an issue with the rate of heat transfer between the cylinders. All must be re sleeved to have the cylinders transfer heat properly to hit max rpm with out damaging the engine. I hope this clears things up. Any questions please contact Tom in the SBT tech department.

Re: SBT sleeve question

I got an SBT cylinder and I'm wondering about the ports on the sleeve. They are not the exact same as the jug itself. The bottom of the ports on the sleeve exceed the bottom of the ports on the jug by about 1/8th inch. Why is this? I have town other sleeved jugs and they are seamless and smooth, you can't even tell they are sleeved by looking at the ports. Will this effect my motor?

Re: SBT sleeve question

im pretty sure you are supposed to have the sleeve grinded out and chamfered to match the original ports. for like the exhaust and intake. i dont know if the bottom matters

Re: SBT sleeve question

No, this is not an issue, the port timing is still stock and the step will not change anything. The engine will still produce the same H.P.
