97 xp still cavitates with SBT prop, and new OEM wear ring

I sent my stock prop into SBT because I sucked up a rock last year and it did a number on the trailing edge of 2 of the blades, my top speed suffered because of this, but at that time the ski did not cavitate at all.

While the prop was at SBT being reworked I installed a Solas prop for a 787 SeaDoo boat that I bought new for cheap to have repitched. The ski would rev and hit the rev limiter a bunch of times from a dead stop because it was the wrong pitch.

Got the prop back from SBT, which did not match my part number, but was from a GSX I think...... SBT said it was the same pitch as my old prop and all would be good.

Installed the SBT prop, and I still had same symptoms from a dead stop, worse than when it had the Solas prop in it. So I thought OK, I will replace the wear ring.

Replaced the wear ring yesterday witha brand new OEM wear ring, filled my ski with water to find out where the water was getting in at. Fixed my leaks, my carbon seal did not leak at all, and I had to pull on it pretty hard to get it to come unhooked from the sealing ring.

Same thing, it is still banging the rev limiter from idle, and the prop fit tight into the wear ring. It also hits the rev limiter when making a hard corner, when it never did it before hand.

Just for giggles I swapped the pump off of my 96XP and the problem went away, ski performs great!!

Does this sound like I got a prop that was not pitched properly??

Re: 97 xp still cavitates with SBT prop, and new OEM wear ring

The prop that I got from SBT is part number 271000660 which matches the 97 GTX. 16/23 pitch

The part number for my stock prop is 271000828, which is the same part number as the 96XP. 17/25 pitch

I don't think the prop that I recieved was the right pitch for my ski.

Thanks Dan, now I will have to wait for SBT to chime in here.

Did the wear ring fit nice and tight into the pump housing? Or is it a drop in fit?

Re: 97 xp still cavitates with SBT prop, and new OEM wear ring

The wear ring fit nice and tight, and I sprayed it with belt dressing to eliminate the possibility of it spinning.

And when I talked to the gal on the phone, she said that they did not have any of my impellers in stock, and would be getting my impeller back, and then I got this one in the mail.

Re: 97 xp still cavitates with SBT prop, and new OEM wear ring

From SBTs website

We accept all stainless steel OE impellers.

*If we have your Original Equipment make/model/year in stock, we will confirm the order by telephone and ship your replacement. You will have 2 weeks to return your old stainless steel OE impeller to us. (I called and they DID NOT have my OE impeller in stock)

*If we do not have your OE impeller in stock, we require you to send in your core first. (which I did)

*If your OE impeller cannot be refurbished, we will send an applicable aftermarket replacement.

Please reference the part number stamped on your impeller and the year, make & model of the ski for proper identification and ordering. If you have any questions, please call us!

I sent in my OE Impeller, and did not recieve an OE impeller in return.

Where do we go from here??

Re: 97 xp still cavitates with SBT prop, and new OEM wear ring

At the request of SBT, and to be completely fair, My above post that states "I sent in my OE Impeller, and did not recieve an OE impeller in return", is indeed worded incorrectly. I did in fact receive an OE Sea-Doo impeller, just not the same part number as the one that I sent in.

Hope this clears up any confusion. Jeremy at SBT has been understanding through this ordeal, and is doing everything possible to make it right.
