96 spi 587?

I bought a SBT 587 white motor this week and i told them i had a 96 spi with a 587 white motor, single carb. Well when i put the motor back in and started to hook up the carb i noticed that the pulse fitting on my old core was in the back by the pto and the rebuilt SBT engine has the fitting in the front by the mag????? Im worried about having to make a longer pulse line, i have heard that you should not go over 12inches? im about there without kinking the line.

You can't take the pulse plate from the carb and turn it around since it will not line up with the center of the pump and the lines on the plate show what direction the fuel enters and exits.

Thank you

Mike Alexander

Re: 96 spi 587?

i may be wrong on this but i don't believe they made the 580 motor in the 96 line up. i thought the spi was the 650 the sp was a 720 and the xp was the 800. are you sure it was the 580 motor and not the 650?

Re: 96 spi 587?

I know what size i have and yes 96 had the sp-spi which have the 587. The spx is a 717 and the 96xp is the 800. There were no 657x in 96.
