TX Titles - motor # changes

Anyone ever had any hassles on a PWC that has a different motor than the one it was titled with?
The GP800s that I bought will be getting at least one new case, if not new motors.
TPWD advised me that I needed to be *SURE* I got my butt back in there and paid an additional $25 per PWC to have the motor registration numbers changed.

Existing motors are remans - I'm sure they don't match anyway, but I didn't mention it.

WOW.. i didnt even realize the titles had the the motor numbers on them?? I know you have to have the motor number for the paperwork. Hmmm, to think of it I know I used the same number for two of my JS550s, didnt have any problems. I wonder if it even matters...

Re: TX Titles - motor # changes

I can't think of any real situation involving a PWC where this would matter. The only thing I could think of is if you had an issue with a stolen motor, I just titled my ski and copied the motor number from the title to the new one, didn't check the actual motor. The only time I can think where having the motor and hull match is with an outboard motor because aren't those titled as well so the hull and motor titles have to match?

Re: TX Titles - motor # changes

I haven't been hassled on the water, but I've been hassled about untitled dirt motorcycles by park rangers. Stopped - no registration / no title - the get real serious about it running the VINs and basically telling me that they can confiscate the motorcycle. Nevermind that may off-road only motorcycles didn't come titled.

I can only imagine what could happen if you were stopped and it was obvious that the motor # didn't match the registration.... I know they check on outboards all the time (separate titles).

Just wondering if anyone has had problems... I hate taking the drive down to TPWD.

Yeah park rangers hassling stirckly offroad vehicles is simply a matter of either them not knowing what they are doing or counting on you not knowing and using it as an excuse to hassle you just to do it as an abuse of power. The only thing you are required to have in a texas offroad park is that sticker.

Re: TX Titles - motor # changes

I don't worry too much about the title matching the engine.... BECAUSE I'm always changing engines combos..... and I never heard of some one retitling their ski after a motor swap

Heck you don't even do that on a car!!!!!

If they try to check your title vs the engine numbers just say you blew the stock motor and put in a replacement..... done deal.....

Re: TX Titles - motor # changes

When I got my GSX with an out of state title, it had no engine tag... the TPWD gave me a hard time about it, but after arguing with them about "what the heck do you want me to do? I can't do anything about it!" They finally relented and said as soon as I get home I had to scribe my driver's license number on the block where the tag should have been...
