Canyon Lake vs Sam Rayburn for Labor Day 2009

I'm asking this becouse I live in Spring, just north of Houston and I have reservations for Potter's Creek on Canyon Lake, but I know it is 15 feet low (never been to Canyon Lake) and don't know how the drop effects the riding, camping, and mooring at camp site conditions. I have never been to Lake Sam Rayburn either and am wondering if it si a safe lake to ride on. I would hate to get there and find it is as stumpy as Lake Livingston - stumps pop up out of nowhere. Any input on both lakes under current conditions is appriciated.

I flew over Canyon lake the other day, its not stumpy anyhow, but u might check on the ramp situation. Rayburn is huge, plenty of places to ride

Any one know about Lake Summerville with it being down 4 feet, is it still a good ride and can you dock? Seen the ramp at Nails Creek is closed. I'm going camping somewhere this Labor Day, just want to make sure I can ride too.

I flew over that one the other day too, it looks kinda shallow and I bet 4 ft down doesn't help much, but that was just an observation. Sam Rayburn should be fine. Did you look at Lake Conroe?

Yea, I ski Conroe regularly, grandpa lives on Conroe, will be on Conroe next Saturday, was on it Tuesday, it is down a foot, not a problem for Conroe,

Thanks Brent22 must be nice to be able to fly over the lakes.

Yea, I think we all look at people on the lake wishing it was us when it is not. Lake is alway so smooth at these times.

I was at Sommerville last week. Lakes low, but I have seen it lower. Ramps at Nails creek is the first I have heard of any ramp closures. There was plenty of action on the lake last week, jetskis, skiing, wakeboarding, etc. Just watch out of the idiots floating/swimming outside the no wake bouys in the high traffic areas in some spots...
