Buckshot 44's On A SXR800

how should i set up a set of 44sbn dual buckshot's at on a sxr800 with a wet pipe, 13-18 skat swirl, and 180lbs head ???

i'm thinking 120-145 jets, 2.3 n/s, 18-20lbs pop-off, 95gram spring, and 1 turn out of both high + low speed adjuster's to strat with ???

or should i just setup the stock carbs ???

any wisdom would be gr8 !!!

Re: Buckshot 44's On A SXR800

If you haven't bought the carbs, i would personally get a decent ignition next. Presumably you have just put the plug in advance on which will give you 27deg of advance above 4000rpm and you have a 180psi head. You are pretty close to deto and should make sure you run good high octane fuel. Backing your timing off above 4000rpm will give you better rpm/top speed and be safer. More low end timing than your 21 deg current will give you better bottom end. I rekon you could run around 25 deg to 4000rpm.

Do the carbs after the brain.

Re: Buckshot 44's On A SXR800

jb, my sxr800's motor is still bone stock.
i have no idea about the newer ignition stuff on it or timing advance.

i'm just getting everything ready + together before i do the switch to a limited.

being an older, out of shape, retired racer, i can only do thing's in steps now, or pay someone to do all the work for me at one time.

thanks

Re: Buckshot 44's On A SXR800

Stick with the stock carbs as Buckshots are very tempermental. Stock are 40mm(not true bore) so the flow gain is minimal but the tuning will much simpler.

As for the ignition, it might be a good idea as the plug is just static timing and is a bit much for high rpm's. I would start at 18, quickly up to 30 and at about 5500 start coming down to about 18 at 7400. Greg at Advent can program anything you want. You could get one for about $300 used. Why don't you ask Jon as he ran the wetpipe on his X2.

A decent ignition is a great mod. I would start with this and the 180lb head. As RER says, you could peak your timing at 30deg down low-mid revs, then back off from there. For ltd skis, you would have to run high octane fuel to have 30deg of advance safely.Im not saying you cant run 30deg advance at 5500rpm, but all the curves i have run back off nearer 4500rpm.

I ran an ijsba stock SXR and in the winter put a 180-200psi head on for better training. The ski would do 53-54 with quite reasonable acceleration. It would out perform a stock ski everywhere and was good to ride.

I believe he was looking for carb jetting, not ignition advice. Mike I think I have it covered, check your PMs

Re: Buckshot 44's On A SXR800

If he wants it to perform better, he needs to stick to the stock carbs and dial in the wetpipe. IMO, Buckshots are POS's but that's just my opinion. You will find that most others would agree. A decent top end carb but that's it.

Mike, why don't you elaborate as to what you have done so far for mods on this ski. List everything...

Re: Buckshot 44's On A SXR800

i ran buckshots on my limited sxr, ran great, holeshot and won alot of local races in novice and vet ski, i also won at the myrlte beach tour stop. ill look monday and see if i still have the jetting written down somewhere. i would have ran novi's, if i had the extra cash, but i didnt, so the buckshots worked great for me.
