ADA girdled head on SXR install
I will be receiving my ADA head today and was wondering if I should have a new base gasket on standby when installing the girdle kit in case anything is disturbed?

Yes,
you will need a new base gasket when you put the longer studs in the case. Also make shure you cylinder is flat on top so the o-rings seals.

Re: ADA girdled head on SXR install
If your installing a girdled head kit then you def. want to replace the Base gasket and buy the proper stud removal tool, if your just installing a NON girdled head then no base gasket replacment will be needed.

Re: ADA girdled head on SXR install
Do yourself a favor, cut the front girdle bolt attachement that hooks to the cylinder studs and stator cover! I wish I had a picture to describe it as I sold my ski. Best way I can say it is you need to cut the back side of the holes that the cylinder studs go in. Just cut a notch the same width as the stud holes, this way you can loosen the cylinder nuts all the way up and slide the piece on. Makes life much easier and you can actually take the stator cover off without raising the cylinder. If someone has a picture of this piece, I can show you what I mean. Still works exactly the same, instead of having to lift the cylinder to slide the piece over the stud, you can just slide the piece on from the side. Looks like an open "U" when you cut it.
Edit, found this. The piece on the left is what goes in front. Those two ears, cut those two holes open so it slides on. Again, the same width as the hole, maybe just a touch wider for wiggle room. Once you torgue the bolt down, you are good.

Good idea. It was a PITA moving the cylinder to get those on. Next time I remove mine, they are getting cut.
You will definitely want a new cylinder base gasket and a stud puller. I was able to use to nuts locked together on the stud to remove mine. Make sure the stud holes are cleaned out before putting the new ones in. Use a little bit of grease or vaceline on the orings to hold them in place when mounting the head. I have had no issues with my oring sealing but others will coat them with 3-bond 1211 as well.

You're in luck, can see how to open them, mine was cracked at girdled bolt, needed some welding

Re: ADA girdled head on SXR install
Thanks for the info and pics you have saved me a hell of a lot of trouble. I will have to say that this product is very well made for the price. Got the 28cc domes so do you recommend disabling the timing advance(back to stock) due to the increased comp. Running fp wetpipe btw.

Re: ADA girdled head on SXR install
FPP reccomends you have the timing advance. You need to check your squish clearance and your compression so as to make a wise decision about the fuel you use.

I am running the 28cc domes and at my elevation, I am at 175psi (stock my engine was at 150psi). I am running the timing jumper and 91 octane. So far there are no signs of deto.

Re: ADA girdled head on SXR install
Thanks for that, I am at 170PSI in stock form. But I run mine on 98 octane anyway so if it comes up a bit higher it should be ok. I am seething as I'm ready to install the head but the water sealing o-ring is like half an inch too big. Great another week without my ski
