Re: what a need to know

All you need is a currently registered ski (doesn't matter where it's registered).
Wearing safety equipment (life jacket, safety lanyard, whistle) goggles/helmet optional.
Knowledge of local waters, no wake zones, channel markers, tides (watch out for sandbars).

Re: what a need to know

Lets start over,
1) Do you have any experience riding skis?
2) If yes, what type of skis?
3) Do you and your friends own skis?
4) Are you planning on bringing them to Miami?
5) If you answer no to all of the above, you should find a rental when you get here.

Re: what a need to know

Welcome!
no permit is required if older then 21, canadian registration should be ok just like for cars
life jacket is common sense
if you ride in winter - weather could be cold 55-60 in jan or feb, so get full wet suit and gloves
freestyle can be done in Biscayne bay and anywhere in the ocean
Speed signs are everywhere on the canal, speed is 30mph during winter in the canal off canal Slow ~5-7mph or idle
Biggest problem is cops they Want to rip u off just like everywhere else

Re: what a need to know

I ride all year. Let me know I will join you for the ride. Ocean is usually pretty rough in February.

Re: what a need to know

Miami
You can ride in Biscayne bay, chill at sandbars and islands. Recommend to check islamorada in Keys.

Unfortunately cops are everywhere, they even ride on skies (usually white/blue). If you go full speed make sure u do it on the wide canal when nobody see it, but still... They will not bother you in the ocean, but its tough to go full speed on the waves.

I got speeding ticket in the ramp from the cop who was hiding in the bushes w binoculars
