South Florida in winter..

Question for you South Florida riders..

My wife has a marathon run in Florida this winter January time frame. We were thinking of trailering our skis maybe to KeyWest or Marathon area. What is the ride / temperature like down there that time of year. Do people ride on the Atlantic side during winter months (without 5 layers of wet suits)...?

Hell yeah. But for a very few handful of random days, you Ride all year 'round down here.

Re: South Florida in winter..

We just found out we will be around Orlando next week... Any recommendations on a good place to ride... any events going on down south? We may try to make it to Miami or Marathon

Re: South Florida in winter..

first post re Florida/January.... Yes, we ride all year round, there are maybe a dozen days all year where the weather (cold wise) would be unacceptable for me (and i've lived here 30 years so my blood is thin, 60 is absolute bitter cold for me and I won't ride in it unless I have relatives from up north in town)
re: orlando,,, there are several threads in the orlando section here that detail your options...
http://pwctoday.com/f75/ I've followed a few threads there because I was interested in a weekend'er up in that area and wanted to take a ski, so they were pointing out lake moss, lake ivanhoe, and a couple of good river (St John's) runs up there...
http://pwctoday.com/f11/central-flor...de-189348.html
there a # of threads in that forum regarding the options

Re: South Florida in winter..

Thanks Spim...

We are actually thinking of heading further south, down towards Key Biscayne or Marathon area - maybe even make a Marathon to Key West trip again. Stop by Riva in Key Largo, see whats new and pick up some saltaway....

Probably be somewhere down there mid-week.

Re: South Florida in winter..

Try Lake Placid / Sebring area.... Lake June is awesome. If you want to ski in and out on the water there is the Valencia Hotel right on Lake Grassy with each room on the lake with beach and the hotel has its own ramp.
