"Quick" morning offshore ride

This morning after getting off of work I went straight to the Miami Beach Police ramp to hit the water:

Probably in the water and warming up around 7am.

Then using my Garmin Nuvi 550 set up in the glove box I was able to use this site EveryTrail.com to upload all the riding I did today.

85 Mile ride...

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=368855

Very cool site that lets you upload the track log directly from the GPS and then you can go through afterwords and check speed and time it took you to do everything on your ride. Anybody else ever use this site to track their rides? I'll definitely be using it from now on on every ride, its just very cool info to have. Easier to share too than getting screen shots on Google Earth

The Good old FXHO started with a full tank and after almost constant full throttle riding came back with quarter tank when I hit the ramp at Noon.

Offshore was pretty choppy with anything from 1-2ft rollers to 3-4ft ugliness.

If you notice on the GPS track on the way back i was riding much slower and making alot more stops, thats basically because the stupid grips plus nasty chop had basically eaten some nice blood blisters into both my hands which became incredibly uncomfortable and made it very difficult to ride at any type of speed...... Must remember gloves next time!

Otherwise it was a great ride with awesome weather, it was great looking west and seeing most of South Florida clearly being drenched in thunderstorms while the beaches were nice clear and sunny with an awesome breeze. At many points some of the storms came close enough to the shoreline to give you that drop in pressure and cooling effect before a storm but never came offshore.

Sadly I'm selling the ski so I'm trying to get in as much riding as possible before it goes.....

Is Garmin Nuvi 550 waterproof? How much did it run you/Where did you get it? After you sell your ski you wont need that Garmin Nuvi 550.... you should sell it to me lol.

Almost constant full throttle?

According to the trip log, there was only one short blip towards the end of the ride where my VX would not be able to keep up

Still, that is a pretty cool site. Ill have to remember about it when I figure out how to put a GPS on my ski..

On many other rides my FXHO has consistantly topped out at 59.2mph on the GPS, if you look at my ride from a couple of weeks ago you'll see that:

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=361526

Offshore even at full throttle through the chop its impossible to get near 58-59, just constantly getting airborne and having to breathe the throttle or just beating through the stuff.

Also I guess I should have said "Near" full throttle with alot of full throttle blasts.

The return trip in Malroy channel was majority of full on throttle but even the bay was choppy and I was standing up going into a headwind hehe....

Re: "Quick" morning offshore ride

Nice. My new job may have me getting out at 7 AM. I wonder what my new co-workers will think when I show up with my VX in tow. Or better yet, with my power cat in tow!! Yes. Ill make that happen. Plenty of room in the employee parking lot.

By the way - GREAT FIND on that GPS!!! I was looking at the Oregon touch screen thing, but the price on that Nuvi 550 is very attractive!

Re: "Quick" morning offshore ride

Great ride, I use the nuvie 550 also but had not seen the web site before, very cool. I was out and around Virginia Key today, definately choppy around the t-storms. Someone had a bad day at the ramp, I'll drop in a photo. And when I was pulling out there was a guy with his tire laying horrizontal beside the trailor, broken axel.
