| Okeechobee Waterway to face summer closures
According to the Army Corps of Engineers, regularly scheduled maintenance in the Okeechobee Waterway will prevent boats from crossing the state between the tentative dates May 26 through Sept. 3.
The installation of a manatee protection system at the W.P. Franklin Lock located at Mile 121.0 on the OWW will cause its closure tentatively from May 26 through July 1. Also, maintenance of the lock at Moore Haven located at Mile 78.0 on the OWW is tentatively scheduled to take place from June 8 to Sept. 3.
The Army Corps of Engineers may issue subsequent notices of dates or changes at a later time. For more information about navigation notices affecting the Okeechobee Waterway, visit www.saj.usace.army.mil and click on the Navigation Branch of the Operations Division.
