Lake Powell Arizona

Anyone going to be on Lake Powell September 4th-11th?

I'm from NorCal and ride the Sacramento Delt and Tahoe a lot.

I am going to meet friends for a week to houseboat. They are renting 2 skis. I'm flying into Page, picking up the ski, tying down my cargo, than navigating my way to the houseboat an hour away.

Apparently it is a really large lake. They said they could give me some GPS coordinates of where they are, but is there anything important I need to know about this lake. Is it easy to get lost? Any good charts in Page?

Thanks

Re: Lake Powell Arizona

Well yes it's a big lake, dwarfs Tahoe by the way. Going in from Page you have several launch options. if you are going on a houseboat, it's likely out of Whaweap. There are 2 launches there. There is another launch at Antelope Point (Indian res/managed) but Whaweap is probably your better bet.

From Whaweap, there is a passage due North from the launch that goes to the main body of the lake to the right of Castle Rock. It was open back in July when I was there and probably still is. There are plenty of maps and current conditions available on the glen canyon web site. You can also find the current requirments for Zebra Muscles which last for me was just printing a notice off the web site, sign it and leave it on the dash board.
