Sweet story!
Memo Gidley...... WOW!
I had no idea he raced skis. I am sure very few knew who he was.

Thanks!

Memo is a great racer! Never seen his Indy car racing, but he's sure a great jet skier. I've actually had the honor of beating him in a race, but that quickly changed, lol!

I obviously didn't know who Memo Gidley was - when I asked him to wear a rookie ribbon and start in the back of the pack his first few heat races until he and I were both "comfortable" with his racing on the course... After the races, and after he had snagged 3rd overall his first time out, he came down to the dock and presented me with an autographed 8X10 of him and his teammate standing in front of his grand am race car!
(Anyone got a rag I can wipe this egg off my face with? Now when I drive my van I have to sit on 3 phone books because I still feel 2 feet tall!)

And then "Myer Fire" comes along and puts me through that same torture all over again!!! One moment in time I'll never forget is at the end of the night, when Myer had snagged 1st overall, he came over to the flag dock to "return" the rookie ribbon I had asked him to wear. His voice was muffled under his helmet and I thought I heard him say something similar to "luvin this" but then again - he might have said something like "stick this",,,, nah I think it was "luvin this"... Anyways, it was with nothing but respect and admiration that I handed that checkered flag off to the #48 kawasaki dude for his victory lap. That hot august night in Suisun is one I'll remember for a long time to come ... with or without egg on my face.

Bonkowski - Robby Hall - Ken Trombley - Duv Holland - Doug Smith - Kurt Knollenberg - Bushman - Bill Wilson - Spires - all I can say is I'm gonna start doing background checks on everyone so I can stop embarassing myself!

Awesome write-up Robby.
Glad you enjoyed yourself, and thanks for the spectacular show you 800 guys put on.

I do have to say, I didn't know who you were either, but I did read your first couple of stories on watercraft.com (they were super funny by the way) before that race. Once I heard that was you who raced in our class (afterwards), I was stoked...I wasn't up there with you and Memo in the 2nd and 3rd heat, but it was really fun.
