To all DJSA racers, families, and crews...
The date has finally been set for the 2009 awards dinner.
Complete details will follow in the next few days, but it is my sincere hope that as many of you as possible will join us on saturday,
Jan 16th 2010, at GoKart Racer in Burlingame.
The was our 4th seasonal point series since we started in 2006, and in my opinion it was by far the most spectacular and exciting race season yet. I'm thinking if all goes as planned the awards event will be just as memorable!
3pm is the tentative arrival time we will be shooting for, and at 3:30 we will begin honoring the season's top racers with awards and prizes for the top 10 overall racers from 2 divisions, awarding 50 top 5 class trophies, and 20 special recognition trophies to some very deserving race people.
Once the awards are done, we'll be enjoying a complete south of the border buffet dinner (pizza for the kids if they prefer) with a hosted bar and margarita machine HOWEVER - those of us serious about laying the smackdown on the kart track will have to minimize the alcohol consumption until after the racing but between 6:30 and 9:30pm...
66 djsa racers, family members, or crew members will have the opportunity
to do battle in the GoKart Racer Challenge Race.
22 racers at a time will have a chance to practice in 3 sessions on 2 tracks followed by those 66 people getting the chance to "qualify" to advance to the evenings main event...
The top 8 qualifiers from both tracks will meet head to head in the evenings main event featuring the fastest
16 djsa racers, family members, crews or staff members- and we might just have another 3 trophies to hand out when the smoke clears. The best part I'm looking forward to? Rumor has it a very special race announcer is going to be "in the house" to call the shots and that is going to be flat out off the hook!!!
We should be done with the formal racing by 9:30 and then you can start breaking out all those gift cards you've won all year and race the rest of the night away up until closing.
In the past - we've pretty much left it up to everyone to order from a restaurant menu and pay their own tab for food and drinks. This year I think its going to be just a little bit easier - and more enjoyable for everyone.
A
$25 per person admission will get you -
*all you can eat buffet dinner,
*pizza for the kids,
*hosted bar, (I'm sure tips will be appreciated by the bartender)
*free sodas at the soda machines,
*and entry to the kart racing challenge race for the first 66 people to sign up
(kids 11 and under will be much less but I have to get that price from the boss)
Pulling off a race is one thing, but pulling off an event like this for so many people is another. Once the challenge race entries have been established things run on a TIGHT schedule between 6:30pm until the checkered flag flies at the end of the night. Unlike DJSA races (ouch) the GoKart Racer registration process, practice, qualifying, and the main event all run on tight schedules. Knowing in advance how many people we will have there will be very important in helping make the night run smoothly - and it will help Doreen and I in determining our catering needs for food and margaritas - I mean beverages...
There are stipulations for racing if you are underage and unlicensed and I will post those remedies shortly, but if at all possible - please EMAIL ME if you will be attending the awards event.
Please include your name,
how many adults in your party
how many kids (11 an under) in your party
and list by name who in your party will be competing in the challenge race.
example -
Jim Lambert - 4 adults / 2 kids
challenge race
1) Jim Lambert
2) Mark Lambert
My email is listed below but for those who don't have it already - please send your info to
djsadelta@sbcglobal.net
I will post the guest and race list on this site as well as on the djsa site on a frequent basis. GoKart Racer has been a gracious sponsor of DJSA all this season, not only for the course racing point series - but the enduro series as well, and I am honored they are opening their doors to us for this event.
I don't anticipate any problems with filling up a roster of 66 racers for the challenge race so I may sit that one out and help Kurt Knollenberg with calling the shots - but anyone interested in taking on the "old man" in grudge races after the challenge race, I got 2 words for you...
BRING IT. Heres 3 more for ya...
Please join us.
I think its going to be a special evening for all of us and I hope to see you there.
More info coming soon.
Until then - stay safe...
Jim Lambert
