DJSA 2009 AWARDS DINNER / Sat - Jan 16th 2010 / GoKart Racer - Burlingame

To all DJSA racers, families, and crews...

The date has finally been set for the 2009 awards dinner.
Complete details will follow in the next few days, but it is my sincere hope that as many of you as possible will join us on saturday, Jan 16th 2010, at GoKart Racer in Burlingame.

The was our 4th seasonal point series since we started in 2006, and in my opinion it was by far the most spectacular and exciting race season yet. I'm thinking if all goes as planned the awards event will be just as memorable!

3pm is the tentative arrival time we will be shooting for, and at 3:30 we will begin honoring the season's top racers with awards and prizes for the top 10 overall racers from 2 divisions, awarding 50 top 5 class trophies, and 20 special recognition trophies to some very deserving race people.

Once the awards are done, we'll be enjoying a complete south of the border buffet dinner (pizza for the kids if they prefer) with a hosted bar and margarita machine HOWEVER - those of us serious about laying the smackdown on the kart track will have to minimize the alcohol consumption until after the racing but between 6:30 and 9:30pm...

66 djsa racers, family members, or crew members will have the opportunity
to do battle in the GoKart Racer Challenge Race.

22 racers at a time will have a chance to practice in 3 sessions on 2 tracks followed by those 66 people getting the chance to "qualify" to advance to the evenings main event...

The top 8 qualifiers from both tracks will meet head to head in the evenings main event featuring the fastest 16 djsa racers, family members, crews or staff members- and we might just have another 3 trophies to hand out when the smoke clears. The best part I'm looking forward to? Rumor has it a very special race announcer is going to be "in the house" to call the shots and that is going to be flat out off the hook!!!

We should be done with the formal racing by 9:30 and then you can start breaking out all those gift cards you've won all year and race the rest of the night away up until closing.

In the past - we've pretty much left it up to everyone to order from a restaurant menu and pay their own tab for food and drinks. This year I think its going to be just a little bit easier - and more enjoyable for everyone.

A $25 per person admission will get you -
*all you can eat buffet dinner,
*pizza for the kids,
*hosted bar, (I'm sure tips will be appreciated by the bartender)
*free sodas at the soda machines,
*and entry to the kart racing challenge race for the first 66 people to sign up

(kids 11 and under will be much less but I have to get that price from the boss)

Pulling off a race is one thing, but pulling off an event like this for so many people is another. Once the challenge race entries have been established things run on a TIGHT schedule between 6:30pm until the checkered flag flies at the end of the night. Unlike DJSA races (ouch) the GoKart Racer registration process, practice, qualifying, and the main event all run on tight schedules. Knowing in advance how many people we will have there will be very important in helping make the night run smoothly - and it will help Doreen and I in determining our catering needs for food and margaritas - I mean beverages...

There are stipulations for racing if you are underage and unlicensed and I will post those remedies shortly, but if at all possible - please EMAIL ME if you will be attending the awards event.

Please include your name,
how many adults in your party
how many kids (11 an under) in your party
and list by name who in your party will be competing in the challenge race.

example -
Jim Lambert - 4 adults / 2 kids

challenge race
1) Jim Lambert
2) Mark Lambert

My email is listed below but for those who don't have it already - please send your info to djsadelta@sbcglobal.net

I will post the guest and race list on this site as well as on the djsa site on a frequent basis. GoKart Racer has been a gracious sponsor of DJSA all this season, not only for the course racing point series - but the enduro series as well, and I am honored they are opening their doors to us for this event.

I don't anticipate any problems with filling up a roster of 66 racers for the challenge race so I may sit that one out and help Kurt Knollenberg with calling the shots - but anyone interested in taking on the "old man" in grudge races after the challenge race, I got 2 words for you... BRING IT. Heres 3 more for ya... Please join us.

I think its going to be a special evening for all of us and I hope to see you there.
More info coming soon.

Until then - stay safe...

Jim Lambert

Sounds like a blast. E-mail on the way. 66 racer maximum? I would be willing to give up my spot so Jim could race. How will we know if we are at or near that number? I know Candis wants to race, but not if it keeps a DJSA OUTLAW from being able to race.

You guys will have a BLAST at Go Cart Racer...we had Kurt Knollenburg's 50th birthday party there and it was so much fun. Just make sure you don't make the chicks have their own qualifyer...I got a shatty pole position (we drew numbers) and had some slow chicks that just wouldn't get the heck outta my way....resulting in missing a qualifying time by less than a second to run with the final moto. If Kurt's wife didn't work there I would have railed her and gotten past her, but bashing up the carts isn't cool either.

Have fun!

Re: DJSA 2009 AWARDS DINNER / Sat - Jan 16th 2010 / GoKart Racer - Burlingame

The awards dinner date of Jan 16th has only been posted for a few days, but the list is growing rapidly and I thank you for signing up early which makes it possible for us to plan in advance for this special night... I have no doubt this roster is going to end up looking like a saturday race roster as more and more names come in - but please keep in mind you're really helping us out by signing up early.

If you haven't already done so, please read the first post of this thread and email me with your name, and how many adults (A) and Children 11 and under (C) will be in your group for the dinner. Additionally there is a 2nd list for racers wanting to participate in the Go Kart Racer DJSA Challenge Race.

The challenge race will be open to the 1st 66 racers to sign up and includes practice sessions, qualifying, and main event racing for the fastest 16 racers in the group. Personally, I look forward to a night without "1 kart length safe zone rules" or "100 ft yield rules" and it will be very interesting to see all you old school racers getting all that "RAILING" out of your systems!!!

There is no additional cost for the "Challenge Race" - it is included as part of the awards dinner but we can only take the 1st 66 people who sign up. If you're going to "get your game on" let us know as soon as possible. The Challenge race will be over by 9:30 - but then you get to break out all those Go Kart Racer gift cards you've won all season cuz thats about the time the real grudge matches will start, and they won't end until closing time! This is all I've been dreaming about since we set the date - PAYBACK for the 2 guys who gave me a heart attack at Suisun. Dave Cottle Jr on my left and Denny Janeway to my right - and I put them BOTH IN THE WALL!!! Oh yeah kids - its on - Jimmy's PAYBACK TIME! uh..ok, sorry, back to the topic...

Please email your guest lists to me as soon as you can at djsadelta@sbcglobal.net

I also very much appreciate the kind words many of you have sent me regarding djsa racing and I sincerely thank you all for your support - and your friendships. In particular I'd like to thank the "Cannonball" himself - Matt Ford, for the words he wrote here. Many of you started racing the outlaw series in 09. Most of you started during the 08 and 07 seasons, but there is a small elite group who were there at the very first race event we had in May of 2006 and the Cannonball is one of those guys who actually came out and raced a wednesday night point series! To hear such positive words from a racer who has been with us since the start is humbleing in itself, and all I can say to each of you is - I really do appreciate everything you do as racers, the same as you appreciate what I and a very dedicated staff do to put these races on for you... the bottomline? The pleasure - is all mine.

Heres the up to date awards dinner guest list.
Email me and I'll update the list as soon as I receive your request.

Re: DJSA 2009 AWARDS DINNER / Sat - Jan 16th 2010 / GoKart Racer - Burlingame

Here is some IMPORTANT information about the challenge race.
Please call Doreen Knollenberg at the number listed below with any questions regarding the race action.

************************************************** *********

If we do the “DJSA challenge race” with 60 to 66 people racing, it will work like this with a 6:30pm registration and start time:

Practice sessions are at 7:00 / 7:15 / 7:30.
(22 people at a time with 10 on one track, and 12 on the other - the tracks intertwine)

Qualification sessions are at 7:45 / 8:00 / 8:15.
(same format and same people go back to qualify)

The Main Event will be at 8:45 and it will take place on the super track.
We will take the top 8 qualifiers from both tracks, so a total of 16 will make it to the main event.
This is real racing, so everyone that has gone out twice will be very satisfied with what they have done, and it will be the people in really good shape (or who are certifiably crazy) that will make it onto the main event!

During the main event everyone can watch the race through the big windows in the lounge area, and it looks as if the “most famous voice of pwc racing as we know it” will be calling the shots and announcing the main event!! (Kurt Knollenberg – you are like a God to me!)

A few things challenge racers need to know!!!

1. NO drinking and driving, so anyone racing will have to wait until they are finished racing before having even one beer.
Anyone not racing can drink all they like and we put wrist bands on all racers so anyone without a wrist band can drink.

2. The arrival / start time for the challenge racers is REALLY IMPORTANT.
If they are not here by the start time we decide - they WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RACE.
The first half hour that they are here is the registration process and it's very important.

3. Anyone over 18 has to bring in a valid drivers license, a passport, or a State ID card.
Anyone between the ages of 12-18 that DOES NOT have a drivers license must go through our Junior Driving School - and we have the classes every Saturday and Sunday. They will need to take the class before our event, or they can even come in that day and do the class which is from 10am until 12:30pm.

They will need to call the front desk to schedule the class at 650-692-7223 ext 0.
Anyone under the age of 18 that DOES have a drivers license, can race with us and they will just need a parent to sign the waiver that night.

Any questions – please call
Doreen Knollenberg
GoKart Racer Event Director
