| Re: Question for Bill O'Neal about ride plate No. The best speed rideplates for that model is the one that came on the boat mounted properly so none of the edges are above the fiberglass surface of the hull to create water drag. You want a flat straight hull bottom and rideplate to create an even surface for the water to pass under the boat. Less water drag = better speed.
For the same reason, on flat waters, you do not want an overly agressive scoop grate that hangs down into the water where the actual scooping edge is at the back of the scoop grate. Those are for rougher waters conditions because on rougher waters you get alot of air mixed into the water going into the jetpump. That is fine out there when it is rough, because you will never see the best top speeds anyway, but your average speed over long distances may be better than if you did not have an agressive scoop grate to keep the jetpimp loaded up with a good supply of water going through it. Areated water does not produce as much thrust as more dense water would when being compressed in the jetpump and shot out of the venturi nozzel. But, on smoother waters, a less agressive scoop will still provide enough dense water to the jetpump with much less drag. Drag kills speed.
How do you think a hydroplane type hull goes so fast with much less horsepower ? It has very little of the hull on the water. |
