Liquid inside the fuel pump....951

Inside the fuel pump diaphram I found a very milky liquid. Looks just like a light chocolate milk. I understand this is normally oil/fuel and water mixing. I did just rebuild the carbs and doubt its leaking through the gasket. I did also put the pulse line into a cup and crank over and it spit out the same color liquid we found inside the pump. It did stop spitting this out after just a few seconds of cranking. I am leaning towards this is my tuning problem as before I found dirty looking fuel inside the diaphram but then I rebuilt them and this is the first time they've been back apart.

We pulled fuel right out of the line feeding the carbs, all clean. We checked the first fuel filter and all clean fuel. No leaks in the system from a pressure check. No water mixed in the oil tank from anything we can see.

I have cleaned it out and I am thinking this is why it runs good for a day or two then back to its problem found in my other thread (951 tuning).

Today, I leak tested the cooling system of the motor and it held 5lbs of pressure for about 45mins. Well within check.

Is there anything else I can check or figure out why I have milky crap in the motor?

You can get milky water in a fuel pump by having water in the cases then hitting the start button. Water usually enters the cases through the carbureators, or when the hull seperates from the rider and rolls over, pipe side up.

Re: Liquid inside the fuel pump....951

Bill how long would the water stay in the case for? I did have the ski roll counter clockwise on me while I was riding and it shut off but never went belly up. It started right back up and ran like it had been (crappy). I just pulled the carbs off and found this after riding the ski for a day or so. All while checking things to isolate and fix this problem. I would think it wouldn't last for too long especially since I rode immediately after.

Well, the water may have been extracted from the engine, but some water, gas and oil may have been pushed up into the fuel pump diaphram anytime in the life of the pwc.

Re: Liquid inside the fuel pump....951

Well I did a leak down test on the entire motor and everything held pressure as stated in the manual. I'll clean it out and run it to see what happen.

Is it normal to get some fuel inside the diaphram? Or should there be none?

Re: Liquid inside the fuel pump....951

I think a better term than normal would be "common" in that it is not uncommon to see liquid inside the diaphram cavity behind the diaphram.

Can I make this any clearer for you ? If water, gas or oil is sitting inside your motor, it can end up being pushed into your fuel pump.
