does 89 sp have to have a rev. limiter

Bill ; I have a 89 sp 580 motor . I just got it and the prev. owner bypassed the rev. limiter but the way it looks they never got it running . I know the rectifier is bad . I got one of those on the way . I cant find a stock rev. limiter on the web. for a resonable price because you know even with this ski running will not fetch much $ . I am just messing around withit for my kids . I am a home builder no work lots of time !!! Thanks John- Orange Beach ,AL.

Re: does 89 sp have to have a rev. limiter

Yes, you can disconnect the brown wire from the rev limiter to the solenoid and the motor will run. But, the stop button, nor the lanyard will kill the engine when you want to shut it off with the rev limiter disconnected. Not a good thing to give your kids,
I cannot believe that someone from this website reading this does not have a good oem rev limiter they could send you for $20.00 or less.
Have you placed an advertisment in the part wanted section here ? That should be a fairly easy part to find.

Re: does 89 sp have to have a rev. limiter

Bill ; I did post a wanted add for a rev. limiter . Have not found the right one yet . However , I was able to hook up the lanyard to the positive side black wire befoe it goes into the coil and it seems to work fine ( temporary fix until I find a limiter ) If you come across one let me know . I really appreciate the help . I have not put it in the water yet . I am still finding other small fixes to take care of first . Thanks John
