Any ideas????94 spi

this one has me baffled, I got this ski which started with a 587, someone changed the motor to a 657x, but used the 587 brain etc... replaced with a new stator, flywheel, starter solenoid, coil, rectifier, and mpem. verified start switch, lanyard switch, both good. Connected all to a brand new battery, and I can't get the ski to turn over unless I jump the solenoid. Any ideas???thanks Andy

Yes, install a new solenoid. It is very common to have a bad solenoid. AKA starter relay in Sea Doo lingo.

Try swapping the two big red cables on top of the solenoid before getting a new solenoid.

I had a ski that was like that one time, swapped the cables & it started working. Worth a try.

Re: Any ideas????94 spi

Those cables can only go one way and be correct. So, if nobody has been in there swapping them around, that will not fix your problem.

As with all problems of this type, start with the basics. Fully charged and load tested battery. Not some old battery that you put the charger on expecting it to come alive.
Follow the grounding cable and be sure it is not broken off or corroded badly.

Jump the two big lugs on the solenoid to assure that the starter motor is good.
Connect the lanyard and depress the start button with a multi meter or a test light connected to the input connectors going to the solenoid to be sure the lanyard post, start button, wiring and fuses are all good and the solenoid is getting a signal to start the motor.

Typically, taking the risk of just replacing the solenoid with a new one ( as long as you know the starter, cables and battery and fuses are all good ) will solve this very common problem.
