94 XP drive shaft

Hello Bill. Thanks for the help with pump removal. I wanted to ask you about after market drive shafts. I found one that fits my ski but don't know were they are made and if they are decent quality or not. Are you familiar with any of them that should not be used?
Also wanted to get your opinion on impellers. My ski is a stock,(as far as I know)94 XP. The factory impeller is in bad shape. I would like to replace it with a Scat Trak. The application charts says 15/20 for low/mid and 14/19 for top speed. I would like to keep the speed but don't want it to be a total dog out of the whole. Could I expect about the same performance with the 14/19 as the stock prop(16/24) or are they two different animals?

Thanks. John

Bill, forgot to ask...are the impeller threads left or right hand?

Thanks. John

right hand threads.

The same degree Skat prop will normally outperform an equivalent stock going by "degrees". Skat's designs are more efficient than the mass produced stockers. I'd think 15-20 would be too steep. If it were my ski I'd go with a wide pitch progression than 15-20 or 14-19. I once ran a 10.5-22.5 on a mod'd 95 SPX which worked awesome.

I have a 14/19 on my 94 with F/A's. Runs like a champ!

Re: 94 XP drive shaft

You should just buy a good used oem driveshaft as there are thousands of them around. Measure the length from end to end ( probably 17 or 18 inches ). You can get one dirt cheap and not have to worry about the quality. They used them on different applications of the older two and threee seaters by just moving the engine mounts to reduce the need for making too many different shafts.

I think you are mixed up. 15x20 may be faster, but with less accelleration and lower max rpm. 14x19 would be better accellerating with a slighly higher rpm at wot. A swirl is good if you need better hookup with the water. A slimline is better for top speed.
I know Sea Doo had some 11x22's and such in models of that era. The oem impellor in good shape is a very good impellor too.

I love Skat Trak impellors for some things and Solas for others as both have their good performance qualities that work better or worse on different models or on different water conditions. The 14x19 Solas was always a fast impellor with good accelleration when used on a two seater with a 657 engine. 15x20 is a bit much for a 657 stock motor to pull well with authority, IMO.

Re: 94 XP drive shaft

Thanks Bill. I got those two numbers from Scats application chart for a stock 657. I'll go with the 14/19.

Thanks Dsolie...It's always good to get info from someone that has the setup first hand. I'll try the 14/19.
