787 impellar pump set up

hey bill I have a 180psi buckshot heads, novi 44s, msd enhancer, spec 2 pipe w/water injection, 85/88 nozzle, intake grate, ride plate.stock pump should i go with 17/23 prop or the xprop? or any other ideas? plus u have said before to stay with the c pumps when upgrading. 6vane or 12vane? how much of a increase in performance would a pump upgrade do with my current set up? anything would be helpful. thanks

Re: 787 impellar pump set up

Unless you are rolling in dough, I would not suggest a C pump for a rec boat unless you can locate one very cheaply. Less veins are better for low end and more viens are better for top end performance, but both are better than oem if coupled with the right impellor and nozzel. Any 6 vein pump is going to be a very early model pump.

I always liked the Solas SDSC XO with about a 83 or 84 mm venturi nozzel it is actually a 16.5x23 pitch impellor. Skat recommends their own 17 X 22.5 Slimline or the 16x23 Swirl. Depends on the water you most commonly ride on. Nozzel opening sizes are relative to rider weight and engine power. These numbers apply to XP, GSX and SPX's, but not 1997 XP's.

The whole game changes if you have a 1997 XP model. They allways need about 1/2 degree less pitch on the big end of the impellor to get the R's up and go faster. Just the way the hull and pump intake is designed makes a difference, and the added wieght of the 1997 XP.

Re: 787 impellar pump set up

thank you, yes this is a 1996 and will be more used for racing than typical rec riding.
