sxr dry pipe

If I put just a dry pipe along w/flame arrestors, jetting, and timing advance how much will it affect reliability? Also would I be better off w/ a magnum pump or just the cone as I am leaving the motor stock except for the above mods?

Re: sxr dry pipe

While the FPP wet pipe works great, the increase in rpms does shorten crank life. The stock SXR spins about 6600rpm, and a properly setup wet pipe SXR will turn about 7300rpm. That increase in peak rpm results in a big jump in fuel consumption, and a considerable shortening of the lifes of the crank and rod bearings. It bears noting that if your riding is mostly on-off & short high rpm bursts (like freestyle riding) the crank life will be much longer than if you are a bouy rider that is at peak rpm a big percentile of operating time .... on wet-pipe SXRs, there is no such thing as "average usage".

While the Skat pump is a great part, a stock SXR with a pipe doesn't make the power to warrent getting one (IMHO).

Respectfully, Harry Klemm
