| Re: SXR 849 or Factory Wet Pipe? Dano,
It's a common question. For sure we have prepped plenty of SXR Sleepers with a wet pipe.... and they run great (when they are proped to reach the 7300rpm smooth-water target). The only down sides is that the fuel consumption is nearly doubled, and the crankshaft life is definately shortened by the added RPMs. Addressing these problems were the main reasons we developed the 849 Sleeper package. The 849 Sleeper only turns 7000 rpms, but it has the torque to pull a steeper prop (Skat 9/17 C-75 Swirl) up to 54-55 mph (the same speeds that the stock bore SXR runs with the wet pipe).
The nice part is that the 849 Sleeper has the same fuel range as a stock SXR,and much better crank life prospects than a wet-pipe equipped boat. The wide powerband and great fuel range of the 849 Sleeper Kit has made it a favorite of wave jumpers and amatuer freestylers. It bears noting that the 849 Sleeper gets a nice boost in overall response from the re-plumbing mod done to the stock pipe ($110).
If you already have the Sleeper kit, converting it to a 849 Sleeper costs $610 (instead of the full $1190 for a stock boat)....... Hope that answers your question.

I am leaning torward to add a FP wetpipe or go with the 849 kit. Have you set up any SXRs using the wetpipe? If so, what kind of results did you end up with as far as MPH and fuel consumsion?
