SJ Drive Line

Gary,

Do you know why Yamaha ran a smaller diameter drive shaft on the 90 model superjets? It is 15mm in diameter instead of 18mm; of course it is the same at the pump and at the splines where it meets up to the midshaft. Is there an advantage to a smaller diameter drive line??

Thanks

Re: SJ Drive Line

All the early 650 models used the small shafts, but the waverunner 3s had a problem bending the subshaft in the engine compartment. When Yamaha went to the larger sub-shafts for the waverunner 3s to deal with the bending issue, all the other models shafts were also increased in diameter. I don't really see any advantage to the either shaft in the SJ application... the weight difference would be small.

Respectfully, Harry Klemm
