| I want to be able to edit my Sales Threads. As the title says. Give me one good reason why I can't. I belong to several forums and I can edit all my threads as i see fit.

| Re: I want to be able to edit my Sales Threads. This has come up here from time to time.
Allowing sellers to edit for sale posts opens buyers up to getting scammed, and having the evidence "disappear".
For example. A scummy seller has a blown yami crank for sale. However, they list it as a "perfect crank", and get $150 for it. As soon as it ships, they edit the post to say something like "perfect core crank". The crank arrives, the buyer is irate, goes back to the original post, and the battle of words begins. I'm not sayin' this would happen a lot, but the potential is there. Yes, someone could quote each and every original for sale listing when replying, to save the "evidence", but who wants to bother with that?
Personally, I prefer the idea of for sale listings remaining "permanent" after the 10-minute (or whatever it is) time limit for editing expires. Helps to keep people honest...

I'm aware that it's allowed on the X, and I know of an instance where a for sale thread was edited after something the seller stated (that was misleading at best) was edited. That bothers me. I also know of an instance where a serious threat that was posted in a for sale thread was edited, but that's another story.
I've also seen examples in other vehicle forums of sellers going back and editing descriptions after having an issue with a transaction. Basically, "terms" were added to the purchase that didn't exist originally, and then things became ugly. Not fun.
IMHO, if you're selling something, post your description/pics and then be an adult and let your words/pics stand as you first wrote them. If you're gonna use certain words/pics to persuade buyers to buy, then those words should remain unedited.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not at all saying that a majority of sellers are dishonest, and I certainly understand the value in letting honest people go back to edit their posts, but everyone needs to understand the negative side effects that can come from allowing the option of editing...

| Re: I want to be able to edit my Sales Threads. That might be a valid point but I do not feel that it happens often enough to limit everyone's usage. It's a case of everybody suffers. for the actions of few.
In my case this limitation is making me look bad. I originally posted an engine for sale available as a long block or short block. I removed the head this weekend for a buyer and found that the pistons were scored and I now must modify and correct my original post and pricing. I am trying to be honest and keep my thread up to date but right now if people read my thread and contact me regarding parts I have to tell them a different story than what is posted. I have posted updates throughout the thread but am still getting contacted by people who have not read thru the entire thread.
I already submitted one update to a mod to update my thread on friday and it was done very promptly, the second update I submitted on saturday evening is still nowhere to be found. I am not impressed, if I cannot edit my own posts then i expect mods to be prompt in doing so for me.

| Re: I want to be able to edit my Sales Threads. The other option (that's already been discussed when this has come up before) is having a mod review edits to for sale postings. I don't think that'll fly here with the sheer volume of for sale listings here. Way too much work.
Also, take eBay for example. Imagine what it would be like if sellers were allowed to go back and edit their auctions. As I know it, a seller can add to a description, but (once a bid it placed - maybe even before that, I'm not sure any more???) sellers can not go back an edit their original words. Granted, it's different format over there, but some of the same logic applies.

I don't think it makes you look bad if you post the truth. If potential buyers aren't reading it before they pm you, then you need to direct them to it. A bit of a PITA, but certainly doesn't make you look dishonest.
What about the dishonest guy selling the same motor as you, that takes someone's money for it, ships it, and THEN goes back to "correct" the original listing?
Yes, I guess we all suffer a bit due to the actions of a few bad apples. I guess we have to pick our poison here.

And you have that same option here with your thread.
Not the perfect solution, I know, but a solution nonetheless.

| Re: I want to be able to edit my Sales Threads. I'm not trying to be argumentative here. I'm just taking human nature (specifially, internet-based human nature) into account when considering this proposed change.
I can guarantee this. If the rules change, and unlimited editing of for sale posts is allowed, soon after, we will have threads started in this "site feedback" section that are entitled, "Why are we letting scammers edit their posts in the for sale sections?"
Like I said. Pick your poison I guess...
