Nothing bad yet, just the normal stop and check for fire extinguisher.

Re: Worst/Weirdest Run-in With DNR or Water Cops

I only rode the last couple months of last summer, probably about 4-5 times at various lakes. I was pulled out two times for random B.S. the second time the guy nailed me for a wake zone violation, and then proceeded to basically tell me he was filling out his quota, this is after he gave me a 30 minute speech about boating, give me a break, just wanted to stomp that fool. Anyway ticked was like $180 I had no idea it was going to be that high, so I was just eating his ish so I could take off. So I was like F- this went to court pleaded innocent, judge cut me a deal to plead guilty for 50 dollar fine no court fee. I was like guilty as charged at least saved $130. Seriously realized your kind of a marked man when riding stand ups almost like the step child of the lake. This occured on Lake Riley in EP. Just want to have some fun, and these damn cowboys with badges on my jock.

On my lake (in Michigan), I think the stand ups get more respect than the couches. They know it is skilled and pretty much leave us alone (obviously we know how to ride and aren't just borrowing the skis). THey stop the couches constantly - and for good measure many a time!!

Re: Worst/Weirdest Run-in With DNR or Water Cops

We were riding our stand ups through the rocks at Killer Dana more than far enough from shore legally. Seems one of the homeowners on the cliff called the Sheriff and as we were headed back we got stopped by the big red Harbour Patrol /OC sheriff. He made us drag a 650 and a SJ up on the swim deck, and chewed us out. He never saw us riding out there, just had the call from the killjoy. He wrote us tickets and threw us back in.
I immediatly went to the courthouse the next day....the violation #'s did not exist....the guy had made us out totally bogus citations which were thrown out! He knew he couldn't really cite us so he decided to make us deal with the court system anyway. Since then I have played 'vessel assist ' several times for them and are cool with them now, but I still give flak for the fake citations from that clown (who is not with the dept anymore).

Better check again...

It can take 2 weeks (or more in some counties) between when the ticket is written and the courthouse has a copy in the clerk's computer record.

The W.P. at our lake tried to impound our cooler because it had no vessel no. on it and wasn't registered!

We sealed off an old (fresh painted) js550 hull and use it as a floating cooler! (no alchohol inside)

Still had its hull number?

If so... it was still required to be registered if you floated it.

If not it could have been classed as a stolen boat hull.

Either way... you lose.

I was ticketed at the dock for "riding after sunset" even though I was docking the ski at the ramp to go get the car and trailer when they pulled up. It was right at the official sunset time and there was light for about an hour after that (mid-summer sunset.)

Re: Worst/Weirdest Run-in With DNR or Water Cops

long ago, (when alot of you were just a twinkle in you daddy's eye), we took our standups to grey's bay on lk minnetonka and during spring high water, jumped the dam(dirt part) that was over flowing. we got as far as the mtka ice bubble turned around and went back upstream. Lifted the skis back over the dam( about 4 ft) and got back in the lake. As we 5 jetskis came out of the bay, there were 2 sheriff boats waiting to greet us. lets just say we got a 1 hr lecture but no tickets!
