Question about the Minnesota River

Does anyone have experience riding on the Minnesota River? My son and I will put in under the 35W bridge and head down stream to the Mississippi. Is anyone familiar with heading the other direction toward Mankato? Is it navigable? Where could I pick up a good map for navigating this section? Any help / advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Question about the Minnesota River

I know that the Granite Falls area not navigable by powered boat. Check the DNR website they should be able to give you more information. Also here is a link to some river charts.

Re: Question about the Minnesota River

I have rode around Carver, Chaska, Shakopee, and Belle Plaine a few times, but beyond B.P. I don't know much about it. It's good in the early spring, but after that the water gets low and you have to watch out for dead heads, tires, cars, dead bodies ect ect...it still looks ok as of now.

Re: Question about the Minnesota River

I'm in the Jordan Belle Plaine area. There is so much crap including a box car that i would never ride the river in that area.
