New Rider (Alone) Thinking of riding out of Fort DeSoto

I just bought a 96 Seadoo GTI. It is said to be a new motor and I replaced the wear ring. It seams to run pretty good but I am worried about breaking down.
I am thinking of getting Seatow. Any suggestions or comments about Seatow or other such services??
I have no friends to go riding with but you can bet I will hit the gulf.

This is a copy of my first post here.

Just bought my first PWC 1996 GTI. Engine runs tight. Already had to replace the wear ring. When I test drove it was cool. But first time out it was ventilating at the start. I found that it had a cracked up wear ring that had been packed with silicone for the sale. Fortunately I am a pretty good mechanic.
Took it out to Tampa bay and I was a few miles from the ramp and it started making a terrible noise I thought it blew up. I was by myself and not knowing what to do I started swimming it towards the shore. Then decided to take a look. The exhaust fell of the manifold and the water was coming in fast. The only tool I had was a cheap crescent wrench that did not quite fit in there but managed to get it back on. Sheww that was ffffun. I beached it got it tight and ripped the waves for another 2 hours “close to the ramp”
The oil sending unit leaks. It popped out first trip and I siliconed it in but it still leaks I will be working on it this weak. Any suggestions how to keep that in there?
Just thought I’d share my first experiences with yall.
LOVE MY SEADOO!

I am towing with my Honda accord so I am limited to good boat ramps and Fort DeSoto looks good. I hear it’s crowded. Do I have to get there before sunup?

I got a million other Questions but I will stop here for now.

I have learned a lot on this great website already and I am looking forward to hearing from yall.

Thanks

Donald

If i were you i would take a few hours and really go threw your ski. fix the little problems i.e cracked/worn hoses, clamps, wires. ect. check every nut bolt and screw. it will give you better knowledge of your ski and it will re insure you on the water. we head out to egmont alot so hit up up if your out that way

You dont have to get to the ramp before sun up. I have a 2 door that I tow a ski on and you will be fine at the de soto ramp. I was camping out there last weekend and dumped the ski at 11am and there was some parking still available in the lot, if worse comes to worse there is extra parking. As for your ski, keep it around de soto, if it breaks down you will have some help around

Re: New Rider (Alone) Thinking of riding out of Fort DeSoto

Thanks guys!
I looked through everything and it all looks really good. I thought I had the exhaust clamped well but I was wrong. I went out of the Fort-Desoto ramp this weekend the 13th. Cruised up and down Desoto beach and hung out on shell key for a while. Man it is beautiful out there. I made the mistake of beaching the ski and water came in the vents and i had alot of water in there. So I'm riding to get the water out and the exhaust came off again. Youre right there are plenty of friendly people willing to help and I eccepted a tow back to the ramp. Only about 100 yards. I took apart the exhaust when I got home and I think I got it right this time. I am getting a sand anchor.
Guess every ride will be a learning experience.
I would love to join up with some other riders but I don't want to be a hinderence.
Not sure how far I can go. No fuel gauge. And I don't know where to get more fuel out there. I can only run about 40 MPH.
I will be going back soon. Maybe this weekend.
