Carrabelle FL

Hey does anyone ride around Carrabelle? I was there last year and fell in love with that town. We ate at a place on the channel by a boat ramp and condos. Anyone know of that bar and grill?

Re: Carrabelle FL

Wow, How did someone from Alexandria, MN make it to Carrabelle? It's pretty much a small fishing town. It has actually grown more in the last 3-4 years than it did the previous 20-30 years. Still pretty small even though the developers have tried build a few settlements in and around it. Since the building boom went bust some of those are small developments are a bust as well. The big development is St. George Island which is across the bay from it. It is really nice, but a little pricey with just mainly upscale rental homes and one small hotel. You probably ate at Wicked Willies. It's a pretty cool place. They help sponsor the big bend saltwater classic fishing tournament, and have a big party every year for it. That entire area is very seasonal and they pretty much shut down until the spring/summer fishing season kicks in.
Not a lot of PWC Riding in and around Carrabelle. The bay there is nice for fishing, but not the best for PWC's. Since St George Island is a 8 mile ride across the bay and only has one tiny free public ramp, if you can call it that. Not many places to launch or hang out except on St George island in the state park there. Mostly people on boats do have one great event every year. The infamous white trash bash. Just an excuse to hang out and drink on the other island beside St.George called Dog island. It is all privately owned, but the beach close to one end turns into party city for a day. Used to be pretty wild, till the FWC found out about it a few years ago and now they patrol it every year. So it has been tamed over the last few years.
Still a pretty cool area, I hope it stays like it is. Not many places like Carrabelle left in FL.

Re: Carrabelle FL

I worked in Camilla GA for a year so I got to know Northern FL pretty good. My parents found about Carrabelle while they were on vacation down there. One Saturday we spent 4 or 5 hours sitting on the front porch eating and drinking, while we watched the boats come in. I must say that was one of the most peaceful places I have ever been. When we got there two guys on skis were just coming back from fishing. It looked like fun.

I have been to St. George Island, Cape Sand Blas, Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe, and the Jacksonville areas. I really wish I brought my ski down to explore the area. I hope to make it back there someday to ride. I think it would be a blast!
