Second World Finals Weekly Update
September 21, 2008
Greetings, Personal Watercraft athletes and enthusiasts. The 2008 quakysense World Finals are almost here. Two weeks down, two to go. So far we have seen no amoeba, and there hasn’t even been a crazy internet rumor about the event not happening and the vendor row is full. As of the day of this writing, we are where we were at this time last year with the online entries. These are all really good things.
The following announcements are the latest bits of information that pertain to the World Finals. Please share them with your colleagues in the PWC community.
Final Seven Days to Enter Without Facing On-Site Fees
This is a reminder that the final day to enter the event by Fax, Mail, or Online is October 1 at 11:59 PM PST. If you have already entered, please check this list. If your name is not on this list then there is some sort of problem with your entry form that has prevented it from being processed. Please contact the IJSBA before October 1st to avoid any late fees. Beginning on October 2, only on-site registration is available.
Leaded Fuel
If you run leaded fuel at the World Finals you will be disqualified. The IJSBA has received the strangest inquiries all grounded in some story going around that we issue fines for the use of Leaded Fuel. The penalty for using leaded fuel is disqualification. We will be testing for lead. We highly recommend using VP Fuels which are available on site.
Revised Schedule
In response to many requests, we are revising the competition schedule. Please note that while the schedule is posted as tentative, the days in which a class is scheduled will not change. So, for example, if you are racing Amateur Ski Lites, this class will be held later in the day on Tuesday October 7, but the competition days will still be Tuesday and Wednesday.
No class will be scheduled on a race day not previously assigned to that class. We will make every effort to separate classes where persons, currently signed up, are competing in back-to-back heats.
Spaghetti Dinner and Riders’ Meeting
This is a reminder to attend the first riders meeting on Sunday, October 5, 7:00 PM at the London Bridge Convention Center. Spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread are provided for registered competitors. The London Bridge Resort reserves the right to request $10.00 per person who is dining without wearing a competitor’s wrist band. There will be some silent auction items. The riders’ meeting is mandatory for all persons competing prior to Thursday.
Girls Running in Junior Runabout 13-15 May Petition to Run in Novice Women
The IJSBA established Junior Classes in divisions of 10-12 and 13-15 to place young riders in skill divisions classified by likely similar abilities. The pool of the 13-15 division has produced talent comparable with some Expert Class racers. There has been some concerns expressed to the IJSBA that some of female competitors in the 13-15 class are better paired with Novice Women’s Ski
If any 13-15 aged female competitors want to be placed in the Novice Women’s Ski class then they should contact the IJSBA in order to petition for reclassification. The petition will be reviewed by the IJSBA as well as with the race directors and affiliate or promoters who would have the most knowledge of the riding history of the petitioning racer.
Rules Meeting
We plan on posting the completed 2009 IJSBA Rule Book before December 31 and have a ship date of January 10, 2009. We want to get through the rule change process as quickly as possible. In furtherance of the IJSBA efforts to invite as much participation as possible from the racers, we will have two methods of making sure your voice is heard by the administrators.
First, each racers entry packet will include a rule change suggestion form that you can fill out and place in a suggestion box at the boat house or at the awards. Second, The IJSBA Racer Representative and the IJSBA Managing Director will host a meeting on Wednesday, October 8, at 5:00PM at the Press Tent. All racers are encouraged to attend this for a question and answer exchange. Ice Cream will be provided by IJSBA. The meeting will end at 6:15PM.
Aftermarket producers will have a chance to meet with The IJSBA Aftermarket Representative and the IJSBA Managing Director on Saturday, October 11th, at 5:30 PM, at the Press tent. This meeting will last approximately 45 minutes.
Affiliates will meet in groups with the IJSBA Managing Director and at least one Affiliate Representative. The schedule for those meetings will be available shortly. OEM manufacturers will be contacted to arrange a meeting schedule.
These are the latest updates for the 2008 quakysense World Finals. If you have any immediate questions or suggestions regarding these updates, please contact the IJSBA at +1-(714)-751-8695 or email
