going to Outer Banks/Southern Shores, NC

Can anyone tell me if there is a good pwc rental place there? Can't tow mine all the way there from St. Louis.

Also any things I must not miss? Be there for a week starting 6/11

Thanks!

Re: going to Outer Banks/Southern Shores, NC

You may want to read this...http://www.nps.gov/caha/determin.htm. Pwc's are prohibited within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore area, which is much of the Outer Banks. The Park stretches from where Hwy. 64 comes out onto the Outer Banks all the way down to include Ocracoke Island.

Just FYI.

Re: going to Outer Banks/Southern Shores, NC

thanks for the warning. looks like I'll have to rent a sailboat [ been sailing since I was small, but the Mississipi does not lend itself to sailing ] or get on a fishing charter. I was so looking forward to gunk holeing. Sigh! first real vacation in 18 yrs...

Maybe I should have gone to Bern?

Thanks again!!!!

Do you mean New Bern? New Bern is about 18 miles upriver from the ICW at the intersection of the Trent and Neuse Rivers. It's a nice town with a lot of history. But I don't know about pwc rentals there. A quick search on the internet could tell you.

Re: going to Outer Banks/Southern Shores, NC

We just got back from a week on the Outer Banks, or OBX as it is called now I guess.

While the place we stated in, Southerm Shores, did have a permit policy for you to use a PWC, there were plenty of places that rented PWCs on the "sound side". Most were Yams, VX110s and some olders 2 strokes. Prices were up there!

At the end of the day I decided not to spend $95 for a 1/2 hr.

Nice place though, will be back....

Cough, cough....$95 for a 1/2 hr.? Whew, I wouldn't have done it, either.

Glad you had a good time, though. We love the Outer Banks.

Re: going to Outer Banks/Southern Shores, NC

yes, we have friends who live there. the wife runs a shop and she says that the prices are what they are because a lot of folks only have 3 months to make all their money. she said she would not pay the prices either. I did pony up for an awesome tour of the north beach and dunes where the wild horses run free. wife and daughter have horses.
there were a lot of free or nearly free things. I rented a house with a kitchen so food costs were low. the only drag was the 20 drive each way.
would I go back? I guess so, but I'd rather go down the coast, many nice places further down.
the OBX was cooler than here, right now it is mid 90s with 98% humidity...
