Bad batches of motors from Weber

looter wrote this awhile back anyone know what year motors were bad?
what serial numbers?
I am about to buy a motor and must know, thx

Probably had one of the bad batches of motors from Weber. That's what I had on my two engines that failed. Same sequence of numbers... Per Hydrospace/Weber, about 20 of them failed. The main bearings were too tight. Is that what happened to yours Jason?[/QUOTE]

Re: Bad batches of motors from Weber

Mine were from the early 2007 model year... so I'm guessing they would have been produced during the last half of 2006... I don't have any of my records from my Hydro to give you the serial numbers but Marcel (SP) from Weber said that all of the "bad" motors were accounted for. Anything out there now should be fine.

Re: Bad batches of motors from Weber

I made contact with them through Hydrospace... via their message board. I'm not sure if it is still active or not... I'll see if I have anything from my Hydrospace days...

The main bearings were too tight when installed from the factory.

Main bearings

Weber says these are all accounted for... Marcel is very difficult to reach, but if you feel you might possibly have a problem you can e-mail me your serial numbers and I will check with Weber.

Weber Motor serial number label
The 8-digit serial number of the engine serves to identify the engine. It is engraved in the motor housing and glued on as a label. Using this number, it is possible to determine the production date and all parts built into the engine.

If the engine has been rebuilt already, had a crankshaft or bearings replaced, then the serial number check will not be valid anymore. It only shows me what bearing combination was used at the factory with that specific block / crankshaft combination.

Regards,
Randy
