| Re: KAWASAKI ULTRA 250 Sponsons released by WORX Horsepower always comes at a price. A Dodge SRT-10 Viper makes 600hp on 91 octane but averages 10-12 mpg. If you want Toyota Prius mpg, I suggest buying a Prius.
The Ultra 250X requires that sort of fuel consumption for two reasons, namely the aforementioned "horsepower is costly" and secondly, power-to-weight-ratios. The Ultra is a big boat, but it's hull is designed to handle what the 1500cc supercharged plant can dish out.
Too often tuners and OE's simply punch up the power output thinking that will solve their underpowered issued. Rather, it ultimately hinders the boat's performance as the additional horsepower overpowers the hull's design.

| Re: KAWASAKI ULTRA 250 Sponsons released by WORX I don't think the 250 gets 75 or 80 miles on a tank, more like 65 from what I've seen. Yeah you have to pay for higher performance but for a lot of people we need to find a sweet spot that still performs well (don't wanna settle for a low-speed entry level 'ski) but still gets relatively good gas mileage, has a respectable range for long-distance all-day touring without spending extra thousands of dollars over a season or spending extra hours during each ride fueling up over and over, and doesn't require premium fuel (more expensive and sometimes impossible to get on the water!)

| Re: KAWASAKI ULTRA 250 Sponsons released by WORX I can totally see your arguement Richforman, but I think many are forgetting one key component (read: an easily repairable flaw) with the 250X: the fuel warning light rings off anywhere between five to seven gallons of fuel left in the tank. Honest! To most, this is unheardof. But, the reality is, is when most believe that the Ultra will run itself dry, it's got quite a bit of go-juice left.
This is edified by R&D Performance's fuel pick up extender which offers the Ultra owner access to an additional one and a half to two (and some change) gallons left at the bottom of the tank simlpy by turning the fuel sock from horizontal to vertical.
To gobble up a 20.6 gallon tank in little over an hour is ludicrous and I know that Kawi understands that. But, we at Personal Watercraft Illustrated believe that advancing the fuel warning light so far up is to ensure the rider's saftey from being stranded while riding in rough or WOT conditions.

| Re: KAWASAKI ULTRA 250 Sponsons released by WORX It's like this, If you leave your car running in you driveway, it will run for a few days. If you drive it floored, you'll likely get a couple of 300 hundred miles out of it. So in other words, 2 to 3 hours on your cars tank of gas. If you drive your 250 at 70 mph, full out, then yes, only an hour and some. If your ride at 35, then double that. the point is that the fuel use is a direct corrulation between speed and distance. I have toured for the good part of a day with my daughter, playing often, an didn't hit reserve until late in the day. Yes, the low fuel warning beeping can be annoying (thank god for the mute button), but knowing there is still 8 gallons lefts certainly lends to peice of mind, and doen't cut a ride short.
thing is, you don't buy an Ultra 250 for fuel economy, row boats are way more enviromentally friendly....... |

| Re: KAWASAKI ULTRA 250 Sponsons released by WORX Exactly MKaman: "you don't buy an Ultra 250 for fuel economy"....so...if fuel economy and/or cruising range, is anywhere on one's list of factors to consider when choosing a 3-seater pwc...the Ultra 250 is should probably get crossed right off that person's list!

| Re: KAWASAKI ULTRA 250 Sponsons released by WORX rich is just jealous he doesn't have one! I'll think about fuel economy when I am 80, if I make it that far! |
