Re: lake huron

Very seldom have a calm day at the tip of the thumb. I would say stay in Port Austin, take a ride down to Caseville and out to Charity Island or go east over to Harbor Beach, beautiful scenery (watch out for the shallow areas), look at a chart before you go riding. You get the wind coming out of the north/northwest waves come in and hit the reefs quite often have waves are 10' apart at the crest and 4' tall, lucky to break 30mph with a 60mph machine. Got a lighthouse 2 miles out at the tip of a reef, stay to the west, shallow out there.
Good luck on your decision, alot of good wave riding in Lake Huron.

Re: lake huron

cross the blue water bridge and head to ipperwash canada. when the waves hit, They are NICE. other than that. just wait for a good weekend (watch local tide bouys on weather sites) and start driving homie. although you may want something a little more powerful than a 650sx and 440 lol you might not make it over the wave! ha jk. brapppp

Re: lake huron

well iv never been through customs with my ski's because im smart about crossing. have all information ready. when they ask you a question answer it on the fly. and you shouldnt have a problem. if you hesitate for any reason or dont have information ready it can give a bad vibe. lake michigan is sick. id recomend going to muskegon or grand haven area. but check weather bouys for tide before making your trip

Re: lake huron

moogie, the lake michigan side is better more often than huron purely on wind direction. most of it comes from the southwest or west in summer, and that in turn pushes up some good waves, especially when storm fronts blow through. winds out of the west on huron blow waves to canada, LOL i'm not saying you couldn't get some good waves there, but my edumacated guess is that lake michigan can produce better summer waves. east winds that preceed storm fronts might be your best bet for breaking stuff on lake huron. peace... john in grand haven, mi ....coast guard city, USA

Re: lake huron

you also know it's gonna be a fun day on the big lake when you have trouble getting out of the channel in grand haven because waves are being pushed upstream. i've had to negotiate 3-4 foot waves on the vxr pro in the last 1/4 mile to the lake a few times last summer. the rewards far outweight the PITA factor of travelling at no wake speeds in the channel, LOL

Re: lake huron

or you can just launch on the end of south river road and hang out in front of the marinas or metro beach channels and hit boat waves all day.
