Anyone ride on Orchard Lake or Nearby?

Hey all,

I got my stand up last month (08 SXR) and have been riding pretty regularly on Orchard Lake, as it's down the street. Anyone riding stand-ups near this area? All I ever see is couches. :/

Little Redj-

Yeah I saw you getting towed in by the yellow boat. I was coming right out on my SXR at that point (blue). I think I waved to you. You had the orange 440 or 550 right?

BigC-

Im actually going on vacation this weekend, so I wont be riding around here for the next week or so. Thanks for the invite though. I will surely have to make it out when I get back. What type of riding do you guys do?

Re: Anyone ride on Orchard Lake or Nearby?

Dont setup bouys if your ever thinking about it....back a few years ago when I raced all the time I use to setup bouys over to the RH side on off days ( where it's far away from any house) or mid week when nobody was around. One day it was pouring rain and nobody was around and I STILL got a frikin' ticket when the cop from the road radio'd in....cops hate standups at that place. Road there for about 3 years early spring/late fall am. Then I thought I'd get smart and not run bouys that anchor....so I threw out three floating soccer type balls in a big triangle and let them float and road around them as the moved....COPS got me again with some lame operation violation since I claimed the balls were not mine....and again I was the ONLY person at the dock. Oh dont start your ski out of the water either - ticket time.....! I've ridden Harsens Island area since 1986 and still cant ever remember getting pulled over ever...NEVER one ticket or warning on the big water....

Re: Anyone ride on Orchard Lake or Nearby?

Ironic,

I was telling a buddy we should setup some buoys sometime soon. Why is it a violation to setup buoys?

I can't say I've had back luck on that Orchard Lake. I've seen the DNR out there a couple times, mainly sundays, and memorial day weekend. I got stopped when the ski was new and didn't have reg numbers on it yet, but other than that no issues. They didn't bother to check documentation or anything. I said it's a new ski, I took boater safety, have a fire extinguisher, and am just riding, and the guy just left me be.

The only hassle I get is couch riders, especially younger guys on say a new Yamaha FX SHO or whatever that seem to find standups really interesting and like to ride along and try to race, and then turn and get in the way.

Re: Anyone ride on Orchard Lake or Nearby?

Well its the Oakland County sherif...A rather large bellied gray haired guy....just like in the movies...
My boat is not loud and I'm very polite....

Yes on the couches...unreal mess at that place when it's nice out.
