Jdpilot. Hull/Powerplant version 2.0 thread

Nothing fancy here.

Screw the "individual build" thread with a bunch of peeps I dont know. I will post my progress over the next months here, so my G-Crew brethern are in arms reach.

History- Bought my 1986 X-Deuce 3 years back for $100 from an elderly man in contoocook. It was in his garage. Hadnt been ridden for years and was mint, with the exception of the nose-punch in that they all seem to have. He fixed it with bondo so I knew it would be an issue at some point.

Fast forward to today. A couple thousand in bolt on goodies later the bondo culimnated to an end during hurricane bill. Post ride HUGE bondo chunks were swimming around the engine bay. A day on the lake afterward proved that my ski would no longer float for more than 5 minutes without the bond line hanging well below the water line.

Picked up a 1987 running ski on the cheap, with an IMMACULATE CRACK FREE HULL, in Swanzey NH. Dude bred collies. I have never seen or stepped in SO MUCH dog crap in my life. Stole the ski and sold all internals to a fellow member and hooked him up real nice.

Today I have so far;
-sanded the hull up to 400 grit.
-Marine-tex'd small divots and sanded them smooth
-Layed a couple layers of glass in the nose as preventative reinforcement, both above and below bond line. I chose this area only as I do alot of subs on the lake (chicks dig em lol) and that seemed to be where my cracks were starting from downward
pressure.
-Ran a thick bead of marine adhesive along the entire bond line in the bay as preventative
-Ran a thick bead around exhaust outlet

I have ordered a pump rebuild, carrier rebuild, new mounts. These will all be the first steps post paint.

The engine will be rebuilt from the ground up and bored a size over.
Stator to be rewound by JSS
All new hoses, couplers, starter, bendix, gaskets, turf
Plan to blue locktite EVERYTHING

Should be painted within the next 2 weeks latest as I dont have a heated garage. I will plug away through the off season slowly in between snowmobile excursions.

Its on kids! A mission to a reliable X-Deuce next season!

Pics coming tomorrow of hull progress thus far...

The ski I snagged on the cheap in swanzey. The original "JF650A NO OIL barcode" stickers were still intact on teh hull exterior and inside the bay. I plan to keep the one inside the bay as vintage memorabilia!

Stripped like a girl on center stage at tens, here she is today. Running over her with a final sand. Note the "shaved" holes where that stupid useless grab strap goes near the top dash. Layed another fiberglass layer in the nose as preventative. Paint sunday. Weather will be perfect to sling it!

Re: Jdpilot. Hull/Powerplant version 2.0 thread

Here she is. 4 coats of "snow white" and 2 thick clear coats later. I am done with inhaling paint fumes for the rest of the year. Even with a high quality respirator, this stuff stanks!

Re: Jdpilot. Hull/Powerplant version 2.0 thread

Pump rebuilt. Carrier housing rebuilt.

All thats left now is to rebuild my UMI and weld more meat on the stops (they are tore up pretty bad), install turf, and rebuild the mill from the ground up. Sweet!

The only two new goodies she will get during this are a jetskihaven bedplate, and a lightened flywheel from groupk.
