cheap beach cart

hey FYI

I didnt feel like paying 300 + for a beach cart and for the shipping..

I bought a garden cart (see pic below) from lowes for 79 bucks..

comes in box, once set , i didnt put the sides on & added 2 2x4's to make the
bunks.

just added carriage bolts thru the wood and viola, instant cart.. .

tried it out, it works well with SJ, but the cart is only 4 feet long so u will have some overhang... i can pull it myself no problem on level ground but uphills its a biatch as im assuming any others would be.

the tires are wide enough for the sand (not the same as the beach carts but decent enough). Also this pic isnt the same one i bought, the tires at lowes are wider...

these carts are rated for 1200 lbs, so it holds the standups no problem..They also have these carts at walmart for the same price, but in blue and that holds 1000 lbs....

figured id shared the info in case anyone else was interested. ill take some pics of the final product if anyone is interested.

Re: cheap beach cart

The reason regular carts are so expensive is they are made of aluminum to be light weight and not rust and last a lifetime .Mine breaks down into tiny pieces for transporting to the beach .I love my bigfoot

Re: cheap beach cart

ya id love to buy one the bigfoot !!

but wanted a simple cart just to transport from the house to the beach and from the trailer to inside the garage .. our house is part of an association so people b!tch and moan if we launch from the beach.

other days ill take it to the ramp...ill be happy if it last a few years !

Re: cheap beach cart

I've been looking for something cheap and easy like this for a while. I have seen similar carts and thought the same thing, but have always wondered how they'd do in sand. Have you actually tried yours in sand with your sj on it yet? You mentioned the tires are wide enough for sand in your first post but you didn't really say if you had actaully tried it yet. Just curious if you did and how it went. Mostly, on level sand is i t pullable with one person?

Re: cheap beach cart

on level ground, sand, dirt or concrete, i can pull this myself. I was actually able to roll this cart completly in the water sumberged, to float the SJ on to it and roll it out by myself with a slight incline.

dont know how it would work as a full time beach cart, like i mentioned, im using this mostly to move the SJ off the trailer into the garage for storage.. Ill use it occassionly for the beach but most of the time i will drive to the ramp .

Ill take a pic of it this weekend..

Re: cheap beach cart

I have the same exact setup I use full time, I tote my ski around in my Astro with the seats removed. I have a trailer, but I find this to be way easier.

psst, mine was only 40 from harbor freight, going on its third year no problems.
