| Re: ray's town lake RAYSTOWN lake is great!! but you dont have to rent a house barge and spend huge dollars to have fun there!! the campsites at 7 points are just fantastic, some are even waterfront campsites. ( they get snapped up quick) some are also by a neat little lagoon - where i kept 2 skis there for a whole week no problems what so ever (just bring some scrap carpet to beach your skis up on protect your feet -and hulls- from some sharp rocks in there) tie off a line to a tree -that wont trip everyone- walking down the path ( me carrying gas cans...) common courtesy can go a long, long way here.
-made a bunch of friends at raystown from all over the country. you can RV, or tent camp, just cheap as can be- you may have to drive to get a shower if you stay at an RV campsite, with gas up so high those campsites are easier to get --without reservations--but you have electric so its a neat thing to camp with 110V AC. but be at the reservation shack at 8 am on weekdays-- (weekends good luck) you can pick from what site is open, pay your fees, and camp there for under $20 a nite!! some sites could take 6 or 8 tent campers easy, just dont bring any mopeds / or mini bikes- especially 2 stroke toys - anything that makes noise is really frowned upon its very quiet, and dont de water you motor..or wash your skis, anywhere but at the ramp!!!
* one particular oblivious putz near my campsite almost got his lights punched out because his kid kept ripping up and down the road on a P>O>S> wah wah moped.... sure it had tags, but legal or not - there really was no need. i tried to be the peacemaker and diffuse the situation...but the park rangers really don't come around much, usually a nice thing... but they missed the whole damn affair.... almost got my lights punched out instead....
AND dont bring FIREWOOD from home, there are some kind of bugs destroying all the forests / LUMBER INDUSTRY! -- no firewood in-or-out!! the surrounding PA counties have this firewood ban - its getting to be a big problem there. So dont contribute to high lumber prices -bring only duraflames, maybe only some contractor scrapwood for kindling + paper, please dont use lighter fluid, gas, or oil to lite, just buy local wood- they even deliver wood and ice cheap enough... what ever wood you do bring - LEAVE IT!! you dont want those little bugs to get near your house..
also hesston raceway is a great nite of dirt track racing entertainment, -no more than 10 minutes away form 7 points campsite entrance - check local papers for race schedule or look at their website for dates / rain dates... a few bucks to get in- but worth every penny...
