Search for former fire chief continues

December 22, 2008

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The search continues for a former Coffee County fire chief who disappeared on the Altamaha River Saturday.

67-year old Jimmy Porter fell off a jet ski on Altamaha River between Montgomery and Jeff Davis Counties. He wasn't wearing a life jacket.

The Montgomery County Sheriff says a witness saw Porter make a circle in the river with his Jet Ski. When he hit one of the waves that the turn created, it knocked him off of the Jet Ski.

Investigators used a helicopter and dogs in the search Monday. Tomorrow, the Sheriff hopes to put a dive team in the water.
