Shop honored for dedication to recreation

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Ridersville Cycle has been honored by Polaris Industries for its dedication to recreational vehicle enthusiasts.

The business has been selling recreational vehicles, including motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, since the 1980s and is one of the top five Polaris dealerships in the country.

Harold and Dawn Unger, owners of Ridersville Cycle, attended a ceremony in Las Vegas last July when their company was inducted into the 2008 Polaris Hall of Fame.

“For over 23 years, Harold and Dawn Unger have helped West Virginia riders find ‘The Way Out’ by providing exceptional customer service. Harold is a longtime off-road enthusiast known for racing and riding dirt bikes,” according to a press release from Polaris Industries.

“Polaris is our biggest seller and we began selling it in this area first,” Dawn Unger said.

Ridersville Cycle was one of the top five Polaris sellers from 1995 through 2001, and in 2001, it was the top seller in the United States, she said.

Ridersville Cycle offers a variety of off-road ATVs, four-wheelers, three-wheelers, dirt bikes, street bikes, personal watercraft such as a Kawasaki jet skis, as well as accessories, repairs and service.

Two stores are on-site at the U.S. 522 South dealership. Polaris, Victory Motorcycles, Can-Am, Kawasaki, KTM, Husqvarna and Sea-Doo are sold in one store. Honda products are sold in a separate store.

Harold Unger said about 500 machines are in stock in the nearly 45,000-square-foot building. The store’s busiest months are April, May, November and December, he said.

Unger said about 70 percent of the people who come in “have a real good idea of what they want.”
