Randy Laine: IJSBA Hall of Fame Inductee

The 'Towed Into Hall of Fame' award

A rose to longtime Carlsbad resident and jet-ski legend Randy Laine for his recent induction into the Hall of Fame for the International Jet Ski Association. Laine is a world record holder for riding the biggest wave on a water craft. In 2001, he guided his Yamaha Super Jet down the face of a 72-foot wave 100 miles off the coast of San Diego at the Cortes Bank reef.

Since the early 1970s, Laine has tested and ridden every type of jet ski, including the first stand-up ski in area lagoons and on the Pacific Ocean. During recent decades, he towed surfers into the huge waves that occur seasonally at the Cortes Bank. Laine is a co-pioneer of "tow surfing" and continues to roar across the ocean today, having completely recovered from a broken femur he suffered during a crushing accident in April 2006.
