Riding a river dream

By NIGEL AUSTIN
21jan06
AFTER 11 days and 2216km, Bryan Schreenan and four other adventurers have achieved their dream of jetskiing from Albury in southern New South Wales to the Mouth of the Murray.

Despite having to contend with the odd snake and being forced to drag their jetskis across sandbars and claybanks, they described it as the experience of a lifetime.
Seven jetskiers started out in Albury on January 7 but after two breakdowns only five made it to the Mouth on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr Schreenan, Roger Pendlebury, Adam Clay, Samuel James and John Wish-Wilson completed the trip after achieving an average speed of 70km an hour.
Mr Schreenan, co-organiser of the Source to Sea jetski trek, said the trip was something he had wanted to tackle for a long time.

"We all live really close to the River Murray and I just wanted to do it and experience the changes in the river," he said. "I've got a fascination with the river and its history and importance to Australia."
Mr Schreenan said the highlight was seeing the cliffs along the river in South Australia and arriving at the Mouth.
But the hardest part was in Victoria where they had to drag their jetskis over rocky claybanks and sandbars.
Mr Pendlebury, said he had hiked down the Grand Canyon, travelled all over the Pyrenees and throughout Australia, but this was one of his best experiences.
"We just wanted to explore it and see it at it's finest," Mr Pendlebury said.
"It was a huge experience, even crossing Lake Alexandrina where you can hardly see the land in places and arriving at the Murray Mouth." Mr Schreenan said there was potential to develop an adventure tourism experience.

Re: Riding a river dream

Cool story, could see a market for these types of tours. They do this in costa rica.

Down in dania beach a few years ago, we meet this guy from cuba on a jetski. My buddy pipes up, did ya ride the jetskii here?
Wonder if there would be much of a market for jetskiis in cuba? LOL
Betcha would'nt be much trouble to rent em. Just won't see them back.

If you run out of air miles mid flight, what happens?
