New Hampshire Hearing: AWA Alert

HB 162 PUBLIC HEARING
Proposed New Hampshire Boating Speed Limit Law

The Senate Transportation Committee will hold a public hearing at 9:00 a.m., Friday, February 24th 2006 at Representative Hall in Concord on HB162.

This bill seeks to establish a 45mph speed limit statewide for New Hampshire boaters.
It’s critical that you make your voice heard on the basic freedom to ride issue.

Granite State PWC owners already know right from wrong when it comes to boating. We don’t need scarce law enforcement assets pulled off life saving tasks like drunk boating and reckless boating enforcement, so they can hand out tickets to the Good People of New Hampshire.

Boating “speed traps” set up in coves isn’t the answer; enforcing the existing law and education are.

Taking time out of your busy day or from work isn’t easy, but it’s essential that the Senate Committee see boaters come out in force and stand up for freedom.

Please make every effort to attend this public hearing and make your voice heard. Make sure you inform fellow PWC owners and boaters. Don’t forget family members. If there was ever a time to get involved, now is that time.

Copied from an email I jsut got moments ago:

The Senate just voted 15-9 to support ITL, therefore HB162 is dead. I want to thank you all for your help in fighting this bill. Doesn't mean this can't come up again.

A few requests:
1. Please don't gloat in any public forums. There are still safety issues that we have to work on and if we don't, this will come up again. There weren't many winners, the NH lakes region has been given a reputation of being an out of control place and those who fear high speed boats are still there. Please remember to be considerate and courteous when boating this summer on NH lakes. And please use extra caution when overcoming other boats.

2. Please consider joining New Hampshire Recreational Boaters Association. I attached a new membership application with information on who we are and what are goals are. Together we can make our lakes safer, while protecting our rights.

A note to PWC guy's from puckoach:

This whole thing came up with cause.

It was not targeted at PWC's. Lake Winni, with it huge size has many ocean going "ciggarett boats" captained in a less than safe manner.

In fact, on certain "pinch" points of the lake, being on a pwc on a Sat afternoon can be quite scary........

IMHO, support what ever required boater training courses are proposed. The life you save may be your own !

Absolutely join the New Hampshire Rec. Group. They're who AWA partnered with in this fight, and they did the lions share walking.

And be ready to fight this issue again: They'll be back.
