| MORE Calif. coastal areas in danger of PWC BANS - FIGHT NOW!!! A GREAT heads up from our Friend, Shawn Alladio:
California is in the process of adding many marine reserves across the state. They are currently reviewing the different areas of proposed reserves, and the maps of these reserves have been made available online: http://www.californiamarinereserves....s/mapsall.html
There are 4 packages in debate, packages 1, 2, 3, and AC. One or a combination of these is very likely to be pushed forward. Of these packages, package 2 places marine reserves on Jalama and Morro Bay tow surfing spots, meaning PWC's will very likely be permanently banned from these areas. I encourage you to take a few minutes and complete the form below by changing the text to voice your opinion generally supporting the reserves, but strongly against Package 2 http://www.californiamarinereserves.org/MLPAemail2.html

| Re: MORE Calif. coastal areas in danger of PWC BANS - FIGHT NOW!!! Sent mine - I just edited out all the tree-hugger support stuff, and included a very short, but comment about my NOT SUPPORTING package 2, and mentioned how important that are was for training and certifying life-saving swift and open water technicians....and that they become certified to save tax-paying voter's lives
I also mentioned we had already lost a number of other vital training areas, and that a compromise was in order. Wish I'd saved a copy of my letter for you, but I think you get the idea.

As a person born in California, I sure am ashamed of it sometimes.

Dear Chairman Isenberg:
As a California resident, protection of the coast and ocean is personally important to me and to my family. I have been following the MLPA developments in the Central Coast because I value the health of the ocean and want to help make sure it is protected for future generations to use and enjoy.
I urge you and the other members of the MLPA Initiative Task Force to support a package of Marine Protected Areas that is truly capable of working as an effective scientific network to restore and protect the full range of ocean life.
However, you are probably not aware that areas that would become marine reserves under Package 2 are currently used for swift water and open water rescue training. These trainings are important in order for our Coast Guard, Fish and Game, Military, Law Enforcement, Fire, and other rescue workers to learn to SAVE LIVES in unique and adverse conditions. If Package 2 were to be implemented, these trainings could no longer be offered at these locations and this would be a great disservice to the public.
I URGE YOU NOT TO CONSIDER PACKAGE 2 as you make your final recommendations. Thank you for your consideration. |

| Re: MORE Calif. coastal areas in danger of PWC BANS - FIGHT NOW!!! a quick response:
Your comment on the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) was forwarded to me. Thank you for your interest and concern.
None of the marine protected area (MPA) packages under consideration by the MLPA Initiative Blue Ribbon Task Force will impact swimming, surfing, boating, diving, and other water activities that do not involve removal of marine life, geological or cultural resources. MPAs do not generally prohibit access for these non-consumptive uses, including the training you describe.
The specific regulation which governs this is found in Title 14, California Code of Regulations, Section 632(a)(3):
"Access into marine protected areas for non-consumptive uses including but not limited to swimming, surfing, diving, boating, hiking and walking is allowed unless otherwise specified in subsection 632(b), areas and special regulations for use."
Thank you again for your interest and I hope your concerns have been addressed.

| Re: MORE Calif. coastal areas in danger of PWC BANS - FIGHT NOW!!! LOL! The've responded to several of us telling us not to worry - claiming pwc/boating use wouldn't be impacted - but if you read the fine print, it's fairly obvious it could easily go away....shows that our "officials" are not paying attention (again)
