Lake Isabella Race hosted by SoCal Edison Employees

Crafty on the water? Sign up for watercraft race at Isabella Lake
Jul 23, 2008
- If you jet ski, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to get a few friends together and let them eat your wake.

The 2008 Kern Valley Personal Watercraft Race, hosted by Southern California Edison employees, returns to Isabella Lake Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds benefit Kern County Sheriff's Search and Rescue, Meals on Wheels and local high school scholarships.

On Saturday, you can sign up for the slalom or closed course, the latter of which is something like a motorcycle race, said Randy Zurn, a Southern California Edison planner and race committee chairman.

Winners take trophies and race classes include 12 to 15 years and 16 years and older. There will also be a poker run Saturday, in which contestants take their first card at the dam and nab others on the lake. Kids 14 and under can enjoy a free treasure hunt that day with the chance to win $100.

Sunday is less about racing and more of a fun chance to run your watercraft along the buoys on the course. Businesses can challenge each other to a race to raise money for charity.

Breakfast and lunch will be available both days, as well as cotton candy and snow cones. There will be a Friday night spaghetti dinner for $5 a plate.

Contestants may sign up on site. The closed course is $35 for the first race and $20 each additional race. The slalom is $15 and includes five runs. The poker fun run is $20 per hand.
