| Jetskis Aid In Search And Rescue Ops By Rosli Abidin Yahya – Scores of people were seen at Tungku Beach yesterday as news spread around that the body of a 15-year-old boy was found near the rocks that separate the beach from the sea. The Bulletin spoke to Zainuddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Hi Marsal, a businessman and a keen jetski racer who applauded the work done by the Emergency Rescue and Fire Services Department in recovering bodies lost in the-seas as well as in their search for lost persons. Yesterday, a jetski was also used by the Fire Services Department in addition to other machines in the rescue attempt. The jetski is a well-equipped machine that can reach and search for lost people or bodies at places like the rocks. Zainuddin, meanwhile, hoped for parts of the Tungku Beach to be labelled as dangerous areas and swimmers and fishermen must be kept away. "The place where Abdul Azim was reported missing last Wednesday afternoon was where we experienced strong currents during our Jetski practices and rehearsals. "We always have difficulty in the area but we knew our limits. We left when we found we could not overcome the current," he said. He called for rescue personnel to be placed at beaches like Tungku, Muara and Serasa. Lookout towers should also be constructed for rescue personnel to monitor swimmers. "The rescue personnel should be able to decide whether they can allow people to swim or not at any particular time. "If they allow people to swim then at least a few of them can be stationed to monitor the swimmers," he said. He also urged for the sandy roads that lead to Tungku Beach be repaired to allow easy access for rescue personnel to attend to any emergency call. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
